Just got connected to 1Mb Broadband - Hurrah! Following Cheesy Mike's thread, I went for Seriously Internet's offer here

Anyhoo...

I also treated myself to an Apple AirPort Express, which is a neat little gizmo which looks like this...

It allows you to use you wireless connection all over the house, use your music anywhere (via another little gizmo) and connect your printer so that you can print from any computer on the network. So far so good.

What I wasn't expecting, was the Modem, when it turned up, to connect to a USB port. It has a socket for this type of USB plug in the downstream end...

...when I was expecting it to have a LAN plug connector. No problem, except that I'm supposed to connect my printer to the AirPort via the USB port...

...and the modem to the LAN type socket (sorry for the probably incorrect terminology).

So - can I either:

a) Get a converter which will allow the USB socket to plug into the LAN socket on the AirPort, or

b) Somehow connect the USB cable from the modem to the AirPort (which will be simple) and then connect my printer to the LAN socket?

My printer is an all singing HP Officejet 5510 - it has a variety of connectors in the back...

...but only one USB port (the other 2 look to be US style telephone sockets).

Any ideas please?

Cheers

Mike:)

Yo Mike

Nasty USB modem eak.......

USB modems are just like old fashioned modems and so; rely on the device - ie PC being fired up to function and therefore share its resources.

Much better a self powered Router NetGear DG834GTUK about top of the range at the mo for home use. Wireless with great range, four network ports, SPI and NAT Firewalled and a much much safer way of getting on the INTERNET.

You won't then need the nasty thing with the apple on LOL.

Phone me mate me fingers are getting tiered..

Forgot to say you can get a cheaper Netgear Router a DG834 which will plug in to the nasty Apple thing using network cable. therfore you can dump the USB Modem.
