Of course you can son - especially if the man in Dixon's he say yes :D

Not tried it 'cos I'm over 17, but I'd guess the answer is YES.

You may have problems with security though......to use a router properly with a PC you'd set up a firewall and access permissions via the PC and control the router's functions from it...I have no idea how the gadget-toy thing works with a router but essentially the signal and protocols that the router uses are the same, unless the stuff that the PC puts into place screws it up.

If ya see what I mean

 errm ...... no :nenau

i guess i'll just have to cat5 it into the back of the router untill i can get my hands on the pukka M/S xbox360 adaptor.

its taken me to long to get hold of this new toy ,to play about and feck it up

thanks anyways

You won't damage it by plugging it in Chris...the only concern I'd have is if it's compatable with the instructions that the router has been given if you set it up correctly to be secure for a PC.

Just connect it up and see what happens.....worst case scenario it won't work...

Hey Y2B, best way would be to use a Cat5 patch cable as you have already said :thumb until you get the X-Box wireless adaptor :D

Most X-box connection problems you can resolve by tweaking the Router's firewall settings.

NETGEAR DG834G wireless modem/router

A word or two on the above Router,

We have installed loads of these over the last couple of years,

If its a pre Version 2 its very old stock and humm. If its a DG834Gv2 your be ok.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/DG834G.asp is the page you need.

Make sure yours has the latest software release. Ones with early software hang or drop ADSL if you don't upgrade the firmware to latest level. So if you have any problems at all with it hanging or dropping the Broadband line at all, before spending hours trying to get it to work.

Download 3.01.25 ~ the latest firmware to my knowledge, don't forget to reset the router after downloading and installing firmware. Ie the little button on the back for a few seconds till tick flashes orange and then I'm afried you will have to re input your settings, but its worth it...

Running games through it is easy as there is loads of stuff on the web how to saftely get the router to alow stuff thro. Normally just add a port forward comand if its needed but can't remember doing this for a couple of customers who are using X Box so might work with out any annying around.

mine's a V2 it says so on the info panel on the side/bottom

im just waiting for my mate to get back from work (he's making the cable for me FOC) so i'll go round and get it and see what happens when i plug it all in

sorted..all up and running via 20 meters of cat5 :D

thanks peeps

Ah yes. Forgot about that reset thingy. I got one of these last week so I could run a Squeezebox (brilliant bit of kit). The latest update is 3.01.25. It apparently ran OK without the reset but you never can tell. Thanks for your advice (to someone else).
