Wiring for Touratech auxilliary lights on 1200 GS

Hi,

Hope this is the right location for my question?

I've a 2010 twin cam GS and have recently bought a used set of Touratech auxilliary head / spot lights.

Just wondering is anyone has a copy of the wiring diagram / fitting instructions and cable routing etc.

I've got a bar mounted switch and fused relay but the man who I got them off talked of some difficulties in finding a particular switched live feed and some alarming comments about the Canbus? system.

Hope some-one can help me on this and thanks in anticipation
 
If it's a switched live you are after ,I tapped into 1 of the 3 wires going into the aux socket under the seat don't ask me what colour :nenau.
But I'm sure you could research more :thumb2
 
On my 2007 there was an Aux outlet next to the headset, it was unused so I bought the correct plug and used that. I was only powering a pair of single LED lights so ran them directly from that socket. You'd probably need to use a relay from something with more current draw.

I'm sorry if this sounds negative, but genuinely, if you aren't able to work it out for yourself by using a DMM (you do have one don't you? ) and a bit of common sense, then you may well be better off taking your bike to someone with a little more nous about them.

Wiring diagrams for the canbus bikes abound, as do threads here about sticking in aux lights.......if you truly can't get to grips with the absolute basics, don't risk it, pay for it to be done.

If you want to learn (and yes, we all had to start somewhere, so :comfort) , spend 30 seconds doing a search and you'll find many useful 'idiots guides' to wiring to a canbus bike here on this very forum......

Thanks for all the replies and helpful advice - no negativity / offence taken from Fanums post either - I fully agree that if 'm not competent I shouldn't be doing it !

I was merely hoping that someone would have a copy of the original install instructions that I could follow - I do have a multimeter and can almost use it - essentially my only concern was locating a suitable switched live to run through my bar mounted switch and onwards to the coil of the relay.

I'm familiar with electrics in general but not with GS wiring and Canbus stuff so was apprehensive that merely finding any switched live and connecting in to it might have adverse effects elsewhere.

I had hoped that someone would have said something along the lines - "use pin 17 on the multiplug under the seat" or "cut and splice into the purple wire in the main loom immediately below the side light feed"

Pretty much what a few have said already - however I'll go and do a little further research as well on the canbus / wiring too.

If it helps, the Aux headlights (OEM spots) have their own fuses (one each) and are outside the canbus system.

Many thanks for this - now the second mention of the OEM aux lights -

Even though my bike, a GS doesn't , and i think never has had these (OEMlights) fitted is the wiring and fusing installed as standard from new in preparation in case these lights are subsequently fitted ?

If this is the case then this would provide a perfect source of either a low current switched live to run through the new bar switch and on to the relay or if this OEM feed is adequately rated and fused for a direct feed to my lamps then I could even dispense with my relay and install a heavier duty direct on/off
switch.

Perhaps you can help further still with the above ....
 
Best and easiest place to take an ignition switched live from is the 12v socket under your seat, will stay on for circa 20 ish seconds after ignition switched off but thats it. Also not many GS bikes with the wiring already on, quite a few GSA's with it, if its wired you will find two fuses under the left hand side panel below the tank panel.

I recently bought some OEM LED aux lights for my 2010 GS off here and fitted them the other day. There is a relay required to be fitted under the fuel tank, under the ECU, and the wiring plugs connected into the existing loom connector above the ECU. There are PDF instructions straight from REPROM on how to fit the OEM lights available on the net. Easy to follow and install. I presume the TT lights could connect the same way.
If you need part numbers for the relay or a link to the instructions let me know and I'll dig them out and post them up.
