Wiring up accessory plug

OK, next in my series of dumb questions, how do you wire up the accessory plug?

Obviously one wire has to be connected to the central pole, and the other wire to the springy bit of metal, but I can't see any obvious means of connection.

Any thoughts, O Wise Ones?

Undo that nice shiny screw. I bet all will be revealed.

Cheesy Mike made an excellent suggestion when wiring this type of plug. Get a heated glue gun and, once you've wired it up, fill up the plug with hot glue before you screw it back together - makes it weatherproof and will make sure you won't accidentally pull the flex out...

The connections MUST be soldered.

The central knob (Oo-er, Missus!) is positive and needs to be cut about 1 cm longer than the negative wire. Make sure that you don't strip more of either wire than you need. Use flux and solder or fluxed solder to join.

However, you may do better with one of these:

which fit in either a DIN socket or a fag-ash socket. I believe that these have screw terminals.

RS Components or Maplins do them. Make sure you get the European spec ones, ie with the removeable red bit, or they won't fit in the sockets.

Try b*w part Number 61.13.8.060.106 at £7.99 from all good dealers. These come with screw connectors for the wires.

The same as the 'special BMW ones that are only compatible with BMW wiring/sockets' says happy john from Pidcocks BMW in Long Eaton!!
