Hey all, I'm on the road in Southern California, and I managed to break my hella/USB adapter which powers my phone/satnav.

Any suggestions how I can wire them up to the 12v without an adapter or where I can source one in LA - RadioShack have never seen them!

Fry's Electronics ?

3600 N Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
13401 Crossroads Pkwy N, City of Industry, CA 91746
3370 E La Palma Ave, Anaheim, CA 92806

depending where you are.

Not sure exactly what you need but they'll be much more likely to help than Radio Shack

Wire it into a switched outlet - as there is an inherent current drain from the 12/5v convertor

So where will the 12 to 5v conversion happen?

So just to wrap this up. Couldn't find a hella type plug anywhere in LA. And it's a rental bike, so I didn't want to to touch the wiring.
But I came up with a satisfactory workaround. Bought a female cigarette lighter socket and ran the wire from that into the broken hella plug. Cut out the USB socket and board, and then it was easy enough to wire up the cigarette lighter. Then plugged a standard 5v USB adapter into the cigarette lighter socket and good to go. I'll post a pic at some point.

Thanks for the input.
