wish I hadn't bothered

The most sensible direction is to keep the Rallye, great bike, not even run in, loads of great journeys still in it, very distinctive etc....

Mind you there are plenty of times in life to be sensible.

Maybe he can afford it, and just wants one, We are a long time dead.....:beerjug:

True..............I used to be on the 'new bike, every 2 years or when another model came out' syndrome - but stopped about 7-8 years ago

Now the money 'lost' on changing so often, is spent on ferries and trips - much more satisfying

Might as well set fire to £2k, in used £20's

Imagine the fun you could have watching it burn, in front of your eyes

You're a long time dead.................pass the matches:D

If you've got the dosh................it's your choice, go for it

Took the Rallye in for it's 6K service on Tuesday and had about 4 hours to kill, and so I asked the salesman for the keys to one of the LC demonstrators parked outside. And now I want one, I'm not one for changing bikes for the sake of it, My last GS I bought in 2004 and I kept it until last June, I'm shocked at how refined it is and so today I've spent an hour on the phone with the salesman and have ironed out a deal which suits me, the only disappointing thing is the hit on the new Rallye, and so I'm suffering, and I need to come to a decision over the weekend whether to chop the Rallye or keep it, I really like the Rallye but the overall performance of the new GS is stunning, even if the present colours available don't quite rock my boat I think I want one. And so if any ones looking for a fully loaded Rallye with quite a few extras bolted on, get in touch it might help me make my mind up
Go and get yours into Hilltop for a remap then you will no longer want a new LC but be more than happy with the oneyou have and be better off for it !

the one big unknown is the depretiation on a TC now.
Mine was 2 years old, so I took the gamble that the LC would hold value much better than the TC, but the truth is that no one knows.
When Porche brought in the LC there was a small period when punters were rushing around trying to get the last of the Air cool, but a few months later the price of the Air Cool fell as folk got used to the idea of LC, a bit later on still the air cool stabilised and even went up a bit ??

I know its a different age, and a different client profile, but not that different

apart from not having a new bike, that is.

maybe he can afford that and a few ferry tickets, who knows? £2K - £4K is feck all to many people*. if you've got it and want the bike, then buying it seems a reasonable option to me :nenau

*not me though :(

Thanks guys all points taken, but just to highlight a couple, it's nothing to do with having a quicker or more powerfull bike, I'm also running a de catted remus set up with akro at the moment which is plenty for me, It's more to do with just how refined it is, it seems lighter which I know it's not, and probably something to do with getting the weight lower down which makes it a bit more manageable for a shortarse like myself, the clutch is lighter the engine is smoother and more responsive, it seems more planted and it's just a more refined version of what I've already got, and yes I know that probably over the next few years it will be even more refined, but I don't think I have the time to wait for that, nor is it much to do with affording it, not to say I'm minted, I'm just an ordinary working guy and so the cost would be no different to what it's costing me now, As for waiting a year thats not really a possibility I have a job where I need to retire probably when I'm 60 (4 years time) and would need to find something similar if I wanted finance beyond that, and so as I said I'm thinking it was a bad idea to take the thing up the road in the first place, I think I want one.

Why not hold on til you see colours you like?

I def wasn't turned on by the colours either so am happy to wait til next year.

Really? Could be waiting a long time. Such a small part of the bike is coloured it is cheap and easy to get the panels wrapped in whatever colours you want. And it has the added advantage of being removable and returning the panels back to a pristine state.

If its just a bit of extra ooomph you need, take the Rallye to Hilltop for a remap. My Classic '08 is putting out 107bhp at the rear wheel now which can't be far off a standard LC. (OK its got a Remus/Akra combo as well.) :D:D:D

That's still 31bhp off a standard LC plus Akra's and conical collectors.

Go and get yours into Hilltop for a remap then you will no longer want a new LC but be more than happy with the oneyou have and be better off for it !

Be under no illusion folks, the above will not bring it close to the WC performance :thumb

Thanks guys all points taken.. and so as I said I'm thinking it was a bad idea to take the thing up the road in the first place, I think I want one.

And I thought it was only me suffering this week, looking at the LC, and then lusting over the HP4, trying to work out how I could stump up the cash/credit without anyone noticing either bike being transformed!!

If you have no one else to report to/beg from, then just do it.

Just a quick comment, the beauty of the LC engine is the way it gives high and consistent torque (i.e. accelerating power) in the normally used part of the rev range even with the standard can which makes it come alive without reving the t*ts off it. This is very noticeable to anyone taking a test ride even if you don't use Dynamic mode. Overtakes are a doddle, but if anyone prefers to rev the t*ts off their bike to access the higher HP to get their kicks then maybe they would be happier with a KTM 1190 or Multistrada.
Looked at the KTM 1190 yesterday at the Plymouth Bike Night and to me it didn't look like a premier piece of kit at all. It hasn't got anything going for it apart from the extra HP which is only accessible at high revs and also it lacks the torque of the LC until the revs get to the high end of the rev counter.

And good god isn't the KTM front end ugly. Whereas I find the LC stonkingly attractive in an edgy masculine sort of way.
