Wish to buy an external hard disk. 1TB+
For backup purposes principally.
My 2 usb powered units have now both failed.
Was considering a WIFI unit or Ethernet unit.
I have no knowledge of these units.
Any preferences?
I have an ethernet hub in the house with multiple spare ports.
Has anyone experience of such units?
Is there much setting up?
I wish to save from several different laptops. Any problems?

Many units boast tv connectivity. Is this beneficial?

Living in Norn Iron, I have TVs with Mpeg4 (Samsung) This is because digital signals from Republic of Ireland are in this form at not Mpeg2 as commonly found in rest of UK. (Samsung has both Mpeg 2 & 4 capability)
I am not a Sky subscriber since I do not support the Evil Empire, though I would not be against installing a dish for other stations.
Does this affect things?

If you are using it for storage of films for use with an HDMI uspscaler such as the Sumvision Cyclone or similar then don't by an Iomega drive as they don't appear to be compatible. I know this fro experience as I have just bought one and when I connect it to the upscaler it keeps asking me to format the external drive.....

Have a look on EBuyer as they have loads but be wary of the Iomega. If films is not your thing then the Iomega seems great and very well built:thumb2

external hdd

I had 2 fail on me over the last year so I hacked them apart, plugged them stright in to my old pc and the hdd's are fine. You might need sata cables to connect them to the mother board.
