I did this event last year, its a green laning day of about 90miles around NE Hants, see the Witley MCC web site. It chucked it down year and was a great day out. I was the only one there on an Xchallenge and several comments were made that it would be hard work, well I made it to the end when many other riders didn't. I'm looking to get an Xchallenge team together for this year if anyone is interested. The event involves following a course books with mileage and turnoff points and a few technical sections that you are scored on. Its mostly green lanes and a great day out. It would be nice to see a few xchallenges there this year. Its on Sunday 4th October.

I'm in on the XC with a buddy on an XR400.

Dxwalt - pm'd ya but no reply? Let me know if you want to make our team up to 3 ;-)

 Not quite sure how changing to a GS a few years ago got me into this, but.............

I got the programme yesterday which explains all - then I had to rush out & buy sticky numbers & clean off several TT ones to make space for them.

Have to say I'm a bit apprehensive of the "trial" bits, penalties for feet down etc - dunno why really cos since I can hardly touch the deck when the air shock is up I should be fine eh!

So, fingers crossed for numbers 39, 40 & 55 please guys - team XXRC :D

Lost my cherry on the Witley Trial!

I feel sure that I'm not the only tosser that has never "competed" in a trial or rally of any sort so I thought I'd jot down a few of my findings:--

When I got the programme & saw that dxwalt & me were to be the only guys riding XCs, in fact the only ones on anything bigger than a 450 - I started worrying even more than I had been!

Thankfully my fears were unfounded & the bikes coped admirably with everthing that was expected of them. We started at 30' intervals after number 1 set off at 0900, throughout the next 5 hours I was quite surprised that the only places we say any groups or bunches was where we had to stop to do several short "trial" sections. These varied from:-

- changing your line and crossing some shallow ruts through markers

- dropping into a deep rut & exiting, again through markers

- 2 engine off trials, the first one coasting downhill around a bend and the further you got, the less points you lost. The second was again downhill kind of going around markers a little way up the opposite slopes of a "half pipe".

- stopping in a marked box half way up a rocky slope, then following a marked route crossing left to right up the rest of the hill.

How may points you dropped was depended on how may dabs with a foot, or drops etc you had.

- the last trial was at the finish; this was a timed blast across a field around marked "gates", then into & out of an ever decreasing radius spiral & blast through gates to the finish point. This wasn't quite so easy as I thought!

Overall it was a great day with 111 other like minded individuals around 88 miles of mainly Hampshire lanes. Although I know the area pretty well it was good to learn some more much lesser frequented tracks too.

So, if you, like me are hesitating getting your name down for a trial or rally cos you're apprehensive - just do it, its brill :thumb2. Only pic is from my phone at the end, happy that I made it!

Only came along to check the event out, as my pogo isn't sorted yet, but was so impressed with the organisation and friendliness of everyone there.

Will be back again next year..... if I can sort the bike in time!

:blast

Any ideas when (or if) the results will published?

:)

Witley LDT results.

Unfortunately, the Sec.of meeting(Michelle)and her husband have just had some Bikes stolen from their garage,so the results may not be the most important thing on her mind at the moment!:(
Glad you guys enjoyed the event though, and all welcome next year.(as long as we still have lanes to run on.)

That absolutely sucks..... It was Michelle (along with everyone else) who took the time and trouble to make us feel so welcome on Sunday.

She was telling us just how much she enjoyed riding her trials bike.....

Bastids!
