Had a phone call from a mate of mine yesterday who told me that he fancied getting back into biking again. He had a 1200gs a while back and was kind of mulling around getting another one.
So, as the conversation went on, I tells him that he may wish to consider an 1150 or an 1100, but as he's never ridden either, so I took my 1100 down this morning for him to have a go on. Off he goes and does a few miles, comes back and he's fairly impressed with the big red tractor.
Further cup of coffee and I suggest that maybe i'm willing to part with the 1100, honestly, the thought hadn't crossed my mind till that moment. We tentatively do a deal and he's just got to mug the wife when she gets in this evening.
I headed off back towards home and decided to pop in to Mottorad Dalkeith to buy footrest screws of all things. In to the showroom, more coffee and a chat with wee Stevie the mechanic, when lo and behold, Alan Dalziel appears. I've bought a couple of bikes off Alan in the past, but changed allegence to Dalkeith for the last bike, with it being nearer.
One of the last times I saw Alan, he happened across us in the main street in Sorento, we were pished and he was with his woman. He tried to avoid us, but was made to endure our company and listen to us talking bollocks. This was no doubt compounded by Alan being tee-total.
So, long chat and a catch up with him, he gives me the keys to a brand new 1200GSA and the next thing I know, I'm heading down the bypass. Back to the dealers and following a bit of number crunching and choice of spec, I have more or less ordered a new bike, with my current GSA going as a trade in.
Sorry if this is turning into a Dear Diary, but through a couple of small coincidences and coffees, I've went from the position of having no intention of getting a new bike when I got up this morning to having mostly placed my order for a new one by around lunch time. Just thought i'd share the happiness.
