Went over to Skye at the weekend, 400 trouble free miles. Monday, leaving work she turned over no problem but wouldnt fire up. I have a spark and fuel. She tries to fire but coughs and splutters. Any pointers??

Perhaps skyes the limit for your bike:augie

I will get my coat now and hope you get some sensible replies

No, have emptied it, all clean. What about this halls switch thing? Do you get a spark if it has packed in?

The hall sensor plate has two sensors on it - one does sparks, one does fuel injectors. Either one can fail (or usually the wiring leading to them - gets cooked and the insulation breaks down).

What bike? Single or twin spark (if an 1150)?

You haven't had the tank off I suppose?

is what you're experiencing anything like this -

The bike will start misfiring, or cutting out completely. The tacho dies completely, immediately that this happens, indicating not a fuel fault.
Sometimes, after this has happened, with the ignition on, but no engine running, the tacho is flicking all over the place. If you listen while this is happening it is possible to hear the coils charging and discharging.

classic symptoms of a duff hall sensor.

Its an 1150. Tank was off after I had the problem. Cables are ok. I did notice the tacho flicker but thought nothing of it. Can hear the fuel pump prime. Not sure i can her anything else.
