First time in a few months I go to turn the bloody things over and it wont start!!! Its been on a trickle charger the whole time.... which is showing the battery is OK....

Turned over but wont fire..... now just making a clicking sound....... tried everything I can think... charger still showing battery is OK.

Any ideas?

Cheers

The charger is unable to tell you the battery is ok, fit an Odessey:thumb

You say it "Turned over" now just making a clicking noise!! Does that mean you had it spinning over until the battery went flat and now it just makes a spinning noise of did it click from the start?? It sounds as Tim says like a weak battery however if you had it spinning over and it doesn't start I would check the side stand switch as they are a known weak point:beerjug:

Let us all know how you get on.

Cheers guys......

Will check side stand switch and order a new battery is it the PC535 or 545?

Yep had it spinning over until battery lost power.... what do you looking for on side stand switch?

Cheers

Just make sure it changes state with a multimeter. When I think about it as long as its in neutral it should be okay (even went out and fired mine u just to double check:augie). There is a thread somewhere in the HP2 section on batteries so do a search and all will be revealed. The battery on the HP2 is very temperamental and I believe the Oddessey is the way to go.

Mine's kanckered too. Despite being plugged in to an Optimate.

WON'T START

I had a similar problem .
if the battery is ok .
When pressing the start button you hear ONLY the click from the rele' starter .
pls check if the starting rele' is ok .
Then get a small hammer , it is not a joke !
then while you press the starting button , give a few hits on the starting motor. Not too strong .
it should start .
if not pls recheck the wireing to the starting mtor .

It happened twice to me , on the high way , what a pain , I had to recover it to a BMW service station .

now it is ok .

going to get new battery no matter what..... but bit confused as keep seeing treads that say PC535 then some say PC545, what the best one to go for?

Cheers

Both of these seem to fit. I have the 545 as a spare because my Standard one was replaced under warranty. I can't give you a definite answer i'm afraid except that people have successfully fitted both the 535 and the 545:nenau

The standard battery is sub-standard. I am on my 4th! It's only because I cannot purchase anything else here I have had to stick with them. I will change to Oddessy when I get the bike down to Australia,

"Wont start"

If the engine was turning over fine to begin with but just wouldn't fire up,it could be your fuel pump controller, when mine went tits up it would turn over but wouldn't fire up,i might be totally wrong but just a thought.:rob

After alot on messing about it gone to the dealers..... Spannerman you could be right looks like a fuel pump type problem. Also their is a recall for a bolt on the swing arm!!!!

Renato is right. I had the same problem with my HP2 recently, including during the Rally of Discovery in Northumbria. My good friend Phil Gunn happened by at just the right moment and came up with the perfect solution: Hit the starter motor with a rock! Worked a treat. It provokes the solenoid into resetting itself. Both the solenoid and the starter motor itself are prone to problems, especially if you ride off road. I've already had my starter motor rebuilt under warranty, and replaced the original battery with an Odyssey at my own expense. Phil has recently replaced his solenoid with a better Japanese one. I plan to do the same....In the meantime, I'll keep bashing the bloody starter motor!
