Ive had a plan.Ive been looking for a site for next years camps, and i thought hell, why not buy a site between us.It would save me the aggro of moving all the camp gear to and fro for starters.I know hells angels do this because of the similar stigma of renting out fields for their gigs.
Ive been looking round the local areas and it seems like its 7-8k an acre.
Ive plans of dropping in a insulated green painted shipping container with a few bunks,a sink, fridge and toilet, and a log burner, and I've found the fridge/freezer and flushing toilet already.
So the unit could be used virtually all year round with the fund members having exclusive use of the cabin.although they would have to draw straws on camp weekends as there would probably be only 6 bunks.TBC..
Ive also an idea of building a 200 yard shooting range, and some kind of outdoor activity stuff for the kids to go wahey on,i.e. aerial run way etc.The site could also be rented out to tossers for a spot of camping, again fees drawn in would offset costs.
Im probably looking for around 4 members plus me who don't mind shelling out around 8-10k, it would be an equal split on costs i.e. water, septic tank, shipping container etc.I don't think there are rates on such land. The other option which crossed my mind was to split the cost of buying a key between two people, say two chaps wanted to spend 5k each and share the key.The would need approval by the bulk of the main key holders.
The shares would be equal and if the share needed to be sold,it could only be passed on to another tosser at cost price, there would be no mortgage on the land, i would like it paid for in full in a shared and legally binding contract.
Also the site could also be rented out to other clubs etc for events etc and the funds used to offset running costs.
Theres also another option of a lesser financial input, this would give infinite rights to the woods and toilet facilities but a main key holder could override them in the queue for the bunks and the sub key holder would probably have to camp in the woods. There are many internet gurus on here who could evolve a internet based diary system to book the cabin etc.
Another option i thought of was 5 keys shared by 10 people at a rough cost of 5k each.
I'm open to ideas, and I've a few sites I've spotted near canterbury, and if anyone spots a suitable site would they let me know please, ideally sited with electric, water and an access path/road.
Any other ideas,post away.

Not wishing to put a downer on it, but having a little involvement with a local Scout Camp site. You need to think about the maintenance, also I know a couple of places locally that have had shipping containers broken into (including one where they turned up and cut a hole in the side of it with blow torches to remove the content. Also insurance.

Sounds like a good idea though. Before you know it, you'll be running it as a camp site for bikers lol....

Take advice re planning regs. There may be a change of use from agricultural to recreational. Someone is bound to dob you in so don't just wing it.

mate of mine did well on a job, bought a woodland for fun.

it's nice and all that but here is a the list of things he's had happen.

restricted planning and what he can and can't do
material he left there got vandalised and stolen, what they could steal they burnt.
He got the blame from the locals for attracting "those" sorts of people to "their" wood....:blast

he's got a heap of other hassle, with liability etc.

it's a great idea but, only really works if the site is maintained with full time presence.

plus at the moment money worries, could a problem... you could be buying a white elefant which then you can't get rid of....:thumb2

buy the farm... that's you all over...:D

my mate's plot was 40K can't remember the size it's big enough, location is nice and all that... but if your going to do that I would aim further west devon/ dorset

have a look at woodland for sale.co.uk

I'm interested. Preferably a site in the wilds somewhere far away from any habitation. Cheers Mark

Sorry lo I would love to buy a farm but dont have enough dosh.its been let out now and so warren farm is game over.i would want it south kent ideally close enough to london close enough to the coast and the ferries and close enough to keep an eye on it.
Well done Mark top man.
A mate of mine Richard has 10 acres and had no bother at all for the last five years.

Another thought

I think you have to accept that you only seem to hear about bad news, like i only see the broken down cars at work, the other 30 million cars are working fine, and everyone loves bad news..

it's a fair comment... I presume that when matey isn't having hassle he's having a good time.

:D

other wise he would have jobbed it by now....:thumb2

I was hoping to have my last camp you guys this year :tears. Not sure about next year.

Kent is only a few hours ride, or several hours ride Joe. It depends upon your schedule and how you like to shuffle. The NW is not the end of the world. :D
