I have been carrying a spare alternator belt around i my bike for the last 18 months, I go to fit it today and found the pratts at a certain BMW dealers not a million miles from here sold me the wrong one!! too short. No, they don't stretch that much!!, so if you by a spare belt make sure it fits!!.
dave (abba fan) Gs. PS are the 1100 belts slightly shorter? if so I've got one for sale!.

You need to loosen 3 bolts on alternator mount, then lower it to the minimum position on mounting. Takes away excessive force needed to get the belt going on to the "reels", get the first part (just few centimeters) going with hands then cranking the engine by wrenching the bottom pulley (or alternatively rear wheel in 5th gear with anotherone's helping hands) can help(?) But never-ever don't let your fingers go inbetween the belt and pulley by doing so!

If on then do the belt-tightening procedure with the bolts as specified in the manual.

1150/1100 belts should be the same lenght and spec as far as I know :nenau

theres two types quoted in motor works 595mm and 611mm

how do I know ...........coz I've just looked after steppers gave me the heads up on my crashbars,I'm bound to be at the side of the road changing the belt on my next tour now...........:thedummy

belt

I purchased a replacement belt from motorworks
when changing the old belt it came off easy
the new conti belt was too tight i had to take all the alternator bolts out to fit the new belt
now the alternator sits right on the bottom of the adjusters
i did read that a modified belt had superseeded the old type

"Praise the lord and pass the Ammunition"

Advice

Thanks for the advice but this even has a different no. definatley too small if it goes on that tight the alternator bearings will not last too long. So back
to the dealers with the old one tommorow.
dave (Abba fan) GS. The one fitted at present was fitted by me and no probs
so if you buy a spare CHECK IT OUT!!.

The truth will out!.

Well to continue the belt sager, I know that your all on the edge of your seats waiting for the next episode!. Just been down to the BMW dealers and there are TWO types!, have now got the correct one so if your buying a belt try and take the old one to compare sizes. The one I brought today is the correct length, just glad I dident need it for a spare! as broken down an't the place to find you've got thre wrong belt!. So brand new short belt will put in for sale section.
