Just watched it on Beeb1 and thoroughly enjoyed it after putting up with prancing on ice and the Zzzzz factor. I thought it was well put together and was a good mix of recently found and not so new footage of the terrain post war. Fantastic. :clap.
If you missed it its available on the i player thingy or whatever it is. Made my Sunday night telly anyway. :thumb2

Toured around there two years ago. One part that interested me was the pics of the collapsed tunnel under the farmhouse, showing how well they'd survived.
Nightmare job everywhere there.

Missed the program but will try and i-player it sometime this week... the trailer looked fantastic.
Never had an interest in WW1 until I took a visit to Verdun..... fecking unbelievable!

Enjoyed it

Thought it was very good indeed, hundreds of thousands of men lost to gain five miles of ground,is hard to comprehend,if they didnt get shot,or blown up,they drowned in the shell holes filled with water under the weight of their gear!!! just cant imagine what that must have been like being in amongst it.A place i for sure need to go see............

Great area, close enough for a long weekend, if anyone is interested I can highly recommend Two Wheel Moorings:

And the surrounding area which includes a couple of Forts (Vaux and Duoamont) which you can wander around large parts of, virtually unchanged since the end of the war.

Did Verdun and the surrounding forts a few years ago, you could spend a month there and still only scratch the surface, pardon the pun. :thumb

WW1 Tours and accommodation

G'day. The following is a pro-biker B&B near The Somme :hide , run by a GS riding expert on WW1. Being a former rifles conservator at the Royal Armouries he knows his stuff and the house also has its own lecture theatre for presentations. This isn't an ad. Martin just happens to be a pal. Apologies if this is already on the site but I'd highly recommend a stay. www.martinpegler.com

We're booked in at Kate and Martins for April next year. Taking my two sons across (both on 1150GS-A's) to have a look round where their Great Granddad fought, and where his father in law and brother in law are buried.
