anyone any ideas please as my R80 has worn cylinder head threads and I cant get the exhaust rose nut to tighten up

I dont want to strip the heads off

cheers

I just put the right goo on and nip them up, never had one come loose yet. I don't know why everybody feels they need to swing on them or hammer them to tighten them up.

Don't send them to scriminger send them to Richie Moore. Richie does a much neater job and charges less.

New Nuts !!

Might be worth trying some new nuts :eek
If they are worn new one might just grip enough

Heres a head i repaired

Feckin' postage is the bane of society at the moment :rob

Incidently, if mileage is over 50,000 may be best to have the exhaust valves replaced at the same time as having the exhaust thread repaired; kill two birds with one stone........obviously depends on budget etc:)

garry H was that a ready made threaded ring replacement thingy or did you make one up? Looks bloody amazing.
Have you got a pic of the whole setup of your machine- is it a standard lathe?
cheers

It's all home made
The threaded piece is made from brass
This is a pic of the setup

Some years ago I had to drill and chisel off the exhaust nuts on my R100/7. The exhaust stubs were manky but after a good wire brushing I made up a 'tool' by getting a hacksaw blade and grinding a knife edge along the teeth, and then used this to gently file along what remained of the threads. With new nuts and coppergrease, she carried on perfectly well for years.
