Me 275 000 klicks R1100GS has increased it's fuel consumption by some 15-20% just lately. I replaced the lambda sensor some 40 000 ago so I reckon it's not the lambda's fault, although it wasn't OEM part it was NGK sensor that should be a hight quality item and I assume it's allright as of now (my original lambda sensor lasted over 150 000 no problem!) - diagnostic tool doesn't give out any lambda sensor error code. Valves, sync, TPS position, zero=zero, all done zillion times.
First I thought it's worn TBs so I did the complete throttle body overhaul with Dan Cāta kit - the engine's now smoother, no ticking etc but nothing changed in fuel economy department. So now I reckon it's the injector heads are worn out - splurring instead of injecting. A hint to this is that when I run through a injector cleaner additive, the consumption goes back to where it used to be (around 50MPG). It lasts just a tank or two, couple of tanks later on a normal fuel without additive the consumption is up again.
Any high-mileage R11xx experience the same on slightly increased fuel consumption? Brand new injectors (those are Bosch items I assume) seem to be rare and pretty expensive. Worth a try or should I search the fault somewhere else?
