Me 275 000 klicks R1100GS has increased it's fuel consumption by some 15-20% just lately. I replaced the lambda sensor some 40 000 ago so I reckon it's not the lambda's fault, although it wasn't OEM part it was NGK sensor that should be a hight quality item and I assume it's allright as of now (my original lambda sensor lasted over 150 000 no problem!) - diagnostic tool doesn't give out any lambda sensor error code. Valves, sync, TPS position, zero=zero, all done zillion times.

First I thought it's worn TBs so I did the complete throttle body overhaul with Dan Cāta kit - the engine's now smoother, no ticking etc but nothing changed in fuel economy department. So now I reckon it's the injector heads are worn out - splurring instead of injecting. A hint to this is that when I run through a injector cleaner additive, the consumption goes back to where it used to be (around 50MPG). It lasts just a tank or two, couple of tanks later on a normal fuel without additive the consumption is up again.

Any high-mileage R11xx experience the same on slightly increased fuel consumption? Brand new injectors (those are Bosch items I assume) seem to be rare and pretty expensive. Worth a try or should I search the fault somewhere else?

Do the spark plugs look the correct colour or too black/sooty?
Is the airfilter clean?.
Is the CO2 pot set up correctly?.
Are the brakes binding/sticking on?
Bad/winter fuel in tank?.

Have a look HERE .

Plus measure the resistance across the terminals on the injector bodies. Should be around 15-16, or at least equal. No amount of cleaning will help if the electrics are toast :D

Sparkplugs look normal to me, pipe slightly shooty hinting to a probably slightly rich mixture. But as told, TPS, valves, zero=zero, sync etc hasn't cured this, plus I have an aftermarket exhaust that's always been slightly shooty as long as I remember, even when the fuel consumption was normal.
Brand new air filter.
Bike's with Lambda (O2 sensor), no CO-pot - tried this route and and it was horrid unefficent and uneven over the rev range. Lambda feedback loop is the key making the normally quirky R1100 work decently smooth and efficent IMO.
Brake's are good and free of drag on a free run.
Fuel's good too me reckons.

Cheers Steptoe, for the best advice on that link so far. I'll see if I can get those resistances measured and see if they're equal or not. Looks like a good starting point, if all fails maybe I'll try injector doctor or get me new injectors if all else fails to cure this.
