Worth up grading?

Worth upgrading?

Dear All,

Many thanks for you advice - sorry I have not responded sooner but went away on training course and came back with the flu - brill. I suppose (stating the bleedin obvious) with any bike, car etc there are always going to be developments/improvements etc over time, how big and better these developments are differ from bike-bike and manufacturer-manufacturer. I am in no rush however when I do upgrade then I will most likely go for the GSA.

I have also considered the new Africa Twin (not something I should probably mention on this forum) and although it is a very good bike I don't think it is the "everything to everyone" that people were building it up to be however I am sure it will (and is from what I have read) sell by the shed load.

Once again, many thanks,
Ranger63

I think the main difference is the fly wheel is heavier so bit more grunt . Gearbox ? better though my 2014GSA is good in that regard . You can go keyless and quick shifter . At 6 foot 5 the GSA will possibly suit you better . I'm your size and love mine
Test ride a GS and GSA bet you buy the GSA :thumby:

I don't want to wander 'off topic' here but as you are a similar height to me (6'3), can I ask if you are getting really bad buffeting from the screen? I have changed my screen twice now for larger/higher screens but im still getting a lot of head shaking buffeting? I remember on my stock GSA screen if I stood a few inches off the seat the buffeting disappeared completely. I just cant seem to replicate that smooth air flow on another taller screen?

Remove the screen. In my experience, if you want absolute zero buffeting you either need to sit behind a barn door (or in a car) or remove the screen altogether. Sure, you'll get covered in more shit from the roads/bugs etc but it's night and day.

Just fitted one of these today to my '16 GSA

Have less than 100 miles on the bike, no way could I live with the standard screen - far too much wind noise - at 6'1" (myself) the Puig Tourer screen with spoiler is very, very good.
I've been riding a GL1800 for nine years - ain't no better screen.
Quick test ride after fitting the Puig - set on lowest position - noticed a more pronounced 'cockpit' noise/resonance but then realised I still had my visor open at 60+. Yes there's wind and noise, but so so much quieter and better than standard.
Altered the adjustable spoiler to a 45degree slant (as opposed to vertical) and it noticeably directed (noisy) air straight at my face which will be 'cool' in hotter weather.
I've read about other guys taller than me enjoying this screen too - recommended. :thumby:
You'll need a screen support though 'cos of the taller screen, plenty available while I went the route of Cymark.

I don't notice buffeting on my GSA but I am short in body long in legs . You could fit a laminar lip but I find if I tuck down its like riding in a bubble of still air . The LC is not as insulating from the elements as the TC ( just sold my triple black GSA ) but I love it but try a laminar lip , see how it goes , works well on my T Max

I may have to try the Puig screen. So far I have tried two screens which are approx. 4/6 inches higher than the standard GSA screen (Cymarc brackets fitted) but my head still feels like its in a tumble dryer? Never experienced buffeting this bad on any other bike Ive owned. I'll order the Puig and see how that works.

If anyone wants a massive screen..let me know. I'll have two for sale shortly both tinted!

Which screens have you tried?

I have tried the WRS screen which improved the buffeting but it was still bad. I currently have a screen from Dream Screen which I got on Ebay which is 22" tall. See photo. It has reduced the buffeting considerably due to the top of the screen being more curved upwards forcing the air away. The only problem is that is doesn't look that nice due to its size!
