Most people start with a softer whisky and end up gravitating towards the smoke and peat Islays which form a big part of the Black Grouse. Try something like Rosebank, Auchentoshan or Dalwhinnie, much more subtle.
I tried the Snow Grouse the other day, pure grain whisky but it was awful. Good grain whisky is bloody brilliant so they must have used some pretty dire crap to end up with such a disappointing brew. The Black Grouse has had some good reviews though.
