WOuld a larger screen make the GS better in the winter?

I also stopped by BMW and looked at the GSA screen which fits ok but as I@m 6'1, would you guys recommend the PUIG over this? From what a few of you have said, it sounds much better. Does it fit straight onto the GS woth out any additional fitments?

It's difficult to accept others riders' recommendations for screens as being directly applicable to yourself unless they are of similar height and have the same seat and seat setting since the relationship of the helmet to the screen will make a big difference. e.g. I'm 5ft 10" on a low seat in the upper setting and know that if I lower my head an inch or so it can make quite a difference to the air flow impact so I'm getting the GSA screen since its dimensions 'should' improve things for me.
Maybe if you could check the sizes of any alternative screens and figure out how those screens would position on your GS you would stand a better chance of deciding in the right direction. Good luck anyhow.

Oh also, the GSA has winglets fitted to the bodywork I noticed - do these make much of a difference at speed? I've seen some on nippy normans site and wondered if anyone had fitted them?

If you are talking about the Wunderlich winglets then yes I have them on my GA. They help quite a lot with wind around your midsection

I'm in 100% agreement with Crotchrocket.

MRA screen was a waste of £90! Perhaps a slight improvement in buffet, but looks shit and wobbles in the breeze!
(Though to be fair that's the poor bmw mount, rather than the screen itself)

The advice, in posts above, to try the GSA screen on the GS is probably valid though.

Screens are personal though and the MRA Vario works great for me. They all wobble too unless you have any extra brackets to stop them moving.

I fitted a GSA screen to my 2015 LC for a trip to Germany 2 weeks ago with the Cymarc screen strenghtening brackets.

Huge difference in wind and rain protection.

Got the screen on Ebay for £60.... great investment.

After commuting into London for 12 months on an MT07, I find my GS is exceptionally warm!

Visited my dealer to see the difference between GSA and GS screens. Hadn't noticed before that the GSA screen is taller and wider so have ordered a GSA screen to try on my GS. I'll post up the result. It was £168.

Ok, the GSA screen turned up first thing in the morning the day after ordering. Great service. Anyhow I fitted it and.....it's not a big difference to be honest but I'll keep it on.
To test it I rode without ear plugs to see if I was able to avoid using ear plugs for out of town riding by minimising wind noise on my helmet, but this wasn't the answer for me since it showed that most of the noise on my GS is coming from my BMW/Akra exhaust which is greater than the wind noise on the helmet.
The Akra is nice and burbly in town but take it up to speed out of town and it's irritating without ear plugs.
My GSA screen experience therefore isn't much use for those with standard cans.
I could fit the standard can back on but I love to hear the Akra popping when the quick shifter is used. Ah well.

Many thnaks for all the posts! After looking at an RT today, I remembered how awful they look and how massive they are and how much I like my GS!

Ask the dealer for a spin on the GSA and see if the screen causes any buffeting.

If you want to eliminate some wind noise, your best bet is a Puig Touring screen with spoiler. You will need some strengthening brackets to go with it though

PUIG Touring screen

Can recommend the Puig with spoiler AND Cymarc brackets.
Rock steady and wind reduced so much can ride with visor up at legal max. no prob.
Spoiler left in default position (in line with screen) but very effective too at directing air into your helmet if so desired on a hot day, with just a bit of pressure to move its position (when stationary of course!)
Reckon it highlights engine noise (bag of spanners etc) but otherwise I'd not ride the GSA with the standard GSA screen - was useless for me at 6'1" and seat on low.

The Puig screen on my GS LC is better than the stock screen on my old RT TC, except on hot days as you cannot lower it to get a cooling breeze

Interesting posts, thanks guys. The Puig seems to be the one to get.

Crotchrocket - It's not buffeting so much (that was a massive problem on my old r1150gs with a gsa screen) so much as general rain/wind protection I'm after.

I've just ordered the GSA winglets which I'm going to fit first so I can gauge the effect, then I think I'm going to get a Puig. It's a shame the one with the spoiler looks so awkward as it's obviously the better one.

Got the winglets and discovered that you can't fit them to a non-Adventure GS. Shame!

Just for completion....I've now fitted the Puig screen and it's quite amazing. Feels quite strange riding as there's so little air getting to you!

Tested up to 75mph and it's stable, not bending as some have experienced and in a shower it kept loads of rain off me. Very happy so thanks for all the suggestions.

For the record, I'm 6'1 and 33inseam. Seems slightly better with the seat in Low.

carrera2, thanks for the info. I might swap the MRA for the Puig, and perhaps get some lowered footpegs to assist with the lowered seat height.

So you didn't bother with any reinforcement brackets?

My Puig Touring screen plus spoiler, braced with Cymarc brackets , performed as a touring screen should, in France this year: perfect

Just a note of caution on the Puig touring screen with spoiler. I'm 6' 1" and have the seat set in the high position on my GSA. Yes I find it gives far better protection than the standard GSA screen and the MRA screen and it reduces buffeting on my helmet to such an extent that I can even ride at motorway speeds with my visor up. However the downside for me is that I'm having to look through it to see the road immediately ahead of my bike and for me that creates problems in the wet and low light conditions when I have my visor closed and a pinlock lens in place. Effectively I'm having to look through 4 layers to see the road immediately ahead of the bike, the helmet visor, the pinlock, the Puig screen and the spoiler itself which also impedes my view. Throw in some rain droplets on the screen and the visor and I'm not seeing very much at all! This is compounded by the fact that the Puig is quite heavily tinted - why don't they offer a clear version? In addition the Puig screen is so protective that it doesn't allow enough airflow to blow water droplets off my visor. I should add that I always keep the Puig screen set in its lowest possible position

To cut a long story short, for me the Puig touring screen works great in dry bright conditions but in the wet or low light, it impedes my vision too much because I have to look through it rather than over it. I'm thinking now about taking a couple of inches off the top and lowering the spoiler accordingly but I'm fearful that I might ruin the aerodynamics of the screen which are very good. Anyone done this?
