Would be GS-er

hi all
just been directed to the site by a friend - must admit to not currently being a GS owner , but aspire to being one.......
Currently on a ZX9R, which I have owned from new (over 5 years). Its a great bike, but I find myself looking for something more than a plastic missile, even though the 9R is probably as close to an all rounder as a plastic missile can get.
Anyway, I'll get to the point: I hope to have a spending budget of approx £4-5000 at the end of the winter, what should I be looking to buy with that money, and what should I be looking for when searching/looking at potential buys.
From my perspective, the bike(s) appear to be victims of their own popularity resulting in many private and trade adverts which do not correspond to the relevant prices on sites like Parkers. Are the values, massively inaccurate, or are there a massive number of over-priced bikes out there?
Whilst I understand that most BMWs depreciate at approx a quarter the rate of a universal japanese motorcycle - can I expect to get a decent piece of kit for that money, or am I dreaming?

Hi There are 2 GS ADV 'S on E Bay at the moment At BIN £5250 both 2004 24000 miles and 36000 miles from BIDFORBIKES they look good value and with a lot of life in them check 'em out !!

thanks for the pointers - had a look, both look decent from the pics - unfortunately have to say goodbye to the 9R first(and the'89 ZXR750, and the '85 GPZ900R.... )....hoping to have GS money by the end of january
looks like I'll be in the money for a decent one anyway.....can't wait

I had a ZXR750L3 for a while and although a great bike much prefer my GS 1100. Ok its not the ripping arms power but still goes well and is a joy to ride. Best of all its a damn sight more comfortable and I can see over cars and hedges.

The GS doesnt make me feel like Im out for a race every time like the ZXR did. I think GS's are holding prices well, simply due to the fact that there such good bikes and the market bears it. Im sure your agree with me when you get one. They handle quite well so you wont be dissapointed.

Graeme.....you haven't said what model GS you're lusting after, but seriously, look at them all (and test ride them)

For the budget you're talking about , you could get a really really sorted 1100.....and you'll not go far wrong with a good'un if you see what I mean

Hello Grambo. Welcome. Fanum is right - do check out all the different models and do spend time test riding. I'm glad I kept my ZX9 and borrowed a bit to buy the GS.
Its very different and takes a while to adjust. A forty minute test ride wont tell you how you are going to get on with a new bike for six months...
The GS is a great all round bike and now is the time to buy. If you can hang on till summer to sell your kawasaki-collection it'll offset a bit more of the cost of a GS and by then you can be sure youre happy with all the quirky differences. Good luck

Thats the first thg I noticed but you soon get used to it. The GS isnt a perfect bike by any means but the quirky things are easily offset by the good ones. Def the best change I ever made.
