Two weeks after placing an order for a non ESA GSA with a south west dealer, I've been informed (last week) by the dealer the build on my bike has an indefinite completion date. Apparently stocks of non ESA suspension units are exhausted and are on back order.

Would I be mad to turn down an offer to upgrade to ESA for just £75 and in doing so get a definite delivery date? My dream of being different for simplicity's sake by having a non ESA bike is certainly being frustratingly tested.

Bit of help on this anyone...

I have a non ESA bike and it's fine you won't tell the difference ! I have toured 2 up with luggage and it was brilliant .You may have a point regarding re sale people seem to only want bikes with it.

Go for it it's a bargain and when you trade bike you'll get your money back easy

You must be far more sensitive than me,it wasn't worth the extra money in my opinion.Id have it for £75 mind

ESA is amazing . I was in the same boat as you before I tried it . Get ESA . You'll love it

I run a non esa bike , but at £75 its not a cost issue and money aside ,if you keep it beyond warranty you could dump the esa if it starts giving trouble for non esa units,
It looks like non esa is becoming more popular though, at £ 75 i would give it a go in your position,

Just a thouught, the BMW dealer in Dublin quoted €2,200 to replace the front shock on a mates 1200 after the shock failed. So will ESA be the "servo" of the 1200's ?

ESA is brilliant if only for the push of a button preload adjustment, the soft/normal/hard settings are bonus

Together with the telelever it is way above anything else I've ever tried for both comfort and handling

It will be far easier to sell on too

Get the ESA !

MAD ???? your worse than that !!!

I would not even think about that offer , its a yes from me £75 to move up to a real bike with great suspension and the added bonus of selling for more than a non eSA is a no brainer

ESA works well on the GS. In fact very well. Also worth more when you come to sell. Its a no brainer.

It works superbly when it's working. It's a £1600 liability when it fails

Luckily I'd complained about intermittent issues with my rear shock absorber before the 6k service when it was a year old and Allan Jefferies had logged it on their computer, so BMW replaced it free of charge outside the warranty period when it failed completely at 2.5 years old last summer
