Would this be a good buy?

I know very little about sidecar outfits but am I right in thinking the sidecar is on the wrong side for the UK?

Any help.

UK Law: It is illegal to ride a bike registered in the UK on or after 1 August 1981 with a sidecar on the right side.

Thanks boys,
Was wondering how you passed a tractor without a passenger to have a look for you.
That saves me a run….

You could consider a swap of sides.
Swapping a right-hand sidecar outfit to the left-hand side of a motorcycle is a complex process that requires careful adjustments to ensure safety and proper handling. It involves modifying the mounting points, adjusting the axle lead, toe-in, and lean-out, and ensuring all components are securely fitted. It's recommended to consult with a professional or experienced sidecar fitter to ensure the conversion is done correctly.
Or other option leave as is and move abroad, France, Germany. :D

Should be an easy swap over to the other side, if your handy with welder and fitting skills, or Move to France .......looks a nice bike :D
If he's buying from abroad it's a foreign outfit so can be ridden over here; can't see why you would want to though.

It's mentioned registered in Ireland, for sale in Ardee, Louth, Republic of Ireland, unsure of bike laws there, he might want to check that first before any purchase.
Personally I would look for something similar priced with correct configurations for his country.

It would be perfectly legal on UK roads as it will have been built prior to August 1981 therefore not being affected by the later change in our law here.

Just did a bit of digging on the side the car can be on,
Regulation 93 of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 states the following:

“No person shall use or cause or permit to be used on a road any two-wheeled motor cycle registered on or after 1st August 1981, not being a motorcycle brought temporarily into Great Britain by a person resident abroad, if there is a sidecar attached to the right (or off) side of the motorcycle.”

Rest of the article here,

It’s a pity that the reg no isn’t shown. It’s quite likely that the bike is actually older than 1982. It may seem strange but vehicles imported into Ireland up till the 80s were just given new reg nos. A Few people were mystified with this. It’s worth following up if you’re that interested. JJH
