Guys

I’m thinking about buying a bike privately on ebay.uk.

Now, as the bike is going to be for export, will I meet reluctance from private sellers in Britain to handing over vehicle documents to some Paddy (as in, me:cool:) who turns up on their doorstep with a wad of sterling?:gringo

As I understand it, there is a section on the back of you’re V5 (V5c/4)to be completed in the event of the bike being for export, and this is sent to you’re DVLA. But, I take the V5 with me to Ireland so I can register the bike here. I’ve done this before with a dealer but not with a private seller.

So.
Questions are…

If you’re in the UK.. Are you comfortable handing your V5 to a foreign buyer?

If you’re Irish….have you met with reluctance from sellers to handing over the V5 when buying privately in the UK?

Thanks:thumb

I handed over the V5 change of owner and returned the export bit to DVLA in exchange for a large wad of notes to two guys from Dublin when I sold my SV. This seems to be what the instructions say to do (although they say retain sections 1-8 as theyw ill be needed to register the vehicle rather than give to the new keeper which is a bit arese about face)

Maybe I was stupid, but short of the notes being forged what problems would there be? If I was worried about the notes I would ask the buyer to come with me to the bank to pay them in, give him the V5 and the keys there.

Wouldnt be a problem. :aidan

(edit. sorry just corrected first bit)

I sold my VFR Vtec last year to a guy from Dublin - he paid me cash and I gave him the V5 book and just filled out the notification of export section which I kept and forwarded to DVLNI - no problem.

If they won't sell it you! maybe they would sell it me :rob
If so, it's not a problem, I'd just arrange for you to pick it up and pay for it:augie

Wow . Thanks for the offer Proff.:thumb:thumb

I’ve been watching ebay for a few weeks and these bikes don’t seem to be selling too well, so I’m just waiting to spot a bargain.

But if I see one around where you live, it would be great to get you to eyeball it for me.

Thanks again:thumb

Proff drives a diesel too so it's cheap at 45MPG or more.

Unfortunately he drinks about 2 gallons of cider to the mile :D:D:D:D

Thankfully he knows a good source :thumb
