hi has anyone got a certificate that came with authentic 1985 R80G/S PD Bikes ?
interested to see what it is like.
thanks.

My understanding was that alot of the PD's sold were just R80's that people bought with a range of extras that were avaliable. Single seat and rack, big tank etc.

Alot seem to have white rear mudguards but the one I bought from Germany that now lives in Cork came new with a black one (favoured by the buyer at the time of purchase).

But I maybe completly wrong.

hi trippy ,thats what i thought.
But Billn has mentioned that there was a cert given with the 85 bikes.
so i am just trying to sound it out.

It's a bit like the Basics, apparently there were 3003 made and a smaller unspecified amount of Kalaharis. However mine was a Basic and the buyer pad an extra 400Dm for a Kalahari tank to fitted on delivery (I have the reciept), so is it a Kalahari or one of the 3003 Basic's. The later I would guess.

Are you going to fret till you get one Jason? :D

Mick Barr was a BMW dealer through the 80's. He told me they bought standard g/s's in and ordered up the Paris Dakar kit when somebody asked for a Paris Dakar bike. The customers often chose which parts were fitted and thats why we have such a mixed bag of parts on the bikes. Be nice if somebody else from that era would post their view on it.

I remember the Mono's being really cheap in the 90's. I turned one down for £500 because it had been used off road :mmmm

Kenny even made a trike out of one. We have to pretend it didn't happen cause he trys to keep it a secret ;)

If there was a R80g/s pd certificate for them to make the proper pd's a lot of folks are running about in fake then:D

A bit like buying an 1150 and Adventureising it with tank and subframe and seat :augie
Looks like the real thing... but it's :(

The stickers are wrong for an 81 :rob That bent brake rods a nice touch on a £7500 bike as well :handbag

Certificate - I got the info from the guy I bought my Bike off.........he was a "Dr" so I would not have thought that he lied.....although he did emigrate after he sold the Bike to follow his calling

He told me that he had the original invoice and certificate somewhere but he could not find them.

In the 1/85 and 9/85, (1986), BMW Brochures the BMW R80 G/S Paris Daker is featured separately and it is described as:, (with photo),
"for anyone who wants the absolute in trail Bikes: This outstanding special edition based on the legendary motorbike, blah blah blah
apart from the obvious it also had a stainless silencer, (versus Black R80 G/S), and cover which covered the silencer rather than half covered on the G/S...but minus LHS battery cover which the G/S had..plus the white rear mudguard of the Paris Dakar

The only mention I have ever seen regarding the higher compression ratio was on the MicraPeak site.

So although you could buy the bits to convert..............BMW did sell the Bike already made up.......?

I know I am quoting myself but I could not edit my posting, but

AFAIK..the difference between a R80G/S Paris-Dakar and a R80G/S with a Paris Dakar kit, would be:
a stainless silencer
a cover which covered the silencer
white rear mudguard

hi Bill, it was the info on the certificate that was new.
but i cant see any reference to anywhere else:confused:
pity the dr did not have the evidence that such a certificate was issued.
perhaps this thread will get the answer.

re the higher compression,i saw that on micapeak as well, nowhere else.
although there is some info on micapeak that is not reliable.
