I have just today managed to acquire an Acerbis Tank for the 100GS and I was wondering if anyone has experience fitting one.
I know that the oil cooler needs to be relocated and I will probably have to go for the Touratech kit which places it behind the high mudguard...is this likely to cause any problems?
It didn't come with any mountings, so I need some advice on how to mount it securely.
What modifcations if any do I need to make to the seat?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Right Ive taken a few pics of the brackets for yoy.

At the front on the down tubes there are two brackets, one each side. they clamp around the down tube so that the rubber wheel shaped bit sticks out to the side and that locates in the slot in the lower front of the tank Pic 1 and 2
At the rear there is a bracket which bridges the frame just as it meets the spine. It is in two parts a top and bottom and sticking up are two treaded pegs with sleeves which poke up through the holes in the rear mounting plate on the tank itself. Pic 3 and 4 Please excuse the non technical terminology but Im sure you will get my drift.. Hope it helps,
I also hope the acrebis tank is the same as mine, make unknown but may be touratech:thumb2

Oilcooler re-locator kit is easy enough. Simon (Sorebums) wisely advised leaving it tilting slighlty forward to avoid rubbing on front tunnel of tank - you'll see! Also, lube 'wheels' with vaseline to ease tank fitting and removal for first few times, there after POP....if not full of fuel when you need to remove it!

You have to trim the side panels very slightly at front as back of tank interface is an obstacle.

Under tank the rectifier (???) needs square edges taken off for security - otherwise it 'might' rub when full. Simon had this happen, I haven't. Have some pics somewhere if helps.

The rear tank mounts didn't align perfectly and I had to cold bend one threaded bar a bit to align with holes in back of tank.

oil cooler and tank have been in situ for around 20,000 miles and 3 years with no issues to date.

that's all I can think of ;)

Great tank once fitted ! Probably pretty unecessary but I wouldn't be without it...impresses small kids and pump attendants a like.

On later bikes you have to "chisel" off small plate/bracket on rear of frame so the rear mount can locate.

.

I'm sure Simon won't mind me posting his pic here regarding the above - the fingers point to the two square edged bits that can be rounded off to ensure no rubbing under tank.

Thanks gentlemen for all that info and especially the pictures. It seems to cover everything that I would need to know.
I have just discovered that an friend of mine is the distributor for Acerbis here in Ireland and he is trying to track down the original mounts.
If not I know a welder who can use the pictures to fabricate what I need.

thanks again all.

It is the same tank as that sold by HPN and Touratech so mounts easily ordered from them at what would of course be a preemium price:D

By the way, if you're after a lockable cap, only way is HPN - from memory £42 or euros maybe. Costly!

Back in '94 Halfords used to do a cap which fitted this, obviously intended for some model of car which has probably been consigned to scrapheap so unlikely to still be found on their shelves. Still it might be worth a look.

That's a good shout as the HPN one is only a cheap thing - wish I'd thought of the car option :blast

Here's a pic of the tank cap just in case it rings a bell with any tank cap boffins around here, cropped from a bigger pic so not much detail here. You can see it has a chunky grip to it. I can't recall how the tank would be venting, perhaps the cap had integral vent.

I think If you fit the central oil cooler?, then you will need to fit a (rear) vented high front mudguard or convert to the lower guard...
