Yes - yet another screen question !!!

I have a standard 1200GS with winglets and bigger adventure screen.

What I am really bothered with is wind noise. I expect to get a bit of buffeting, but the noise is excessive. Unless I duck my head right down behind the screen, which is not practical for a tall deformed git like me, it is a bit like having my head in a jet engine even with ear plugs.

What is the Wunderlich extension piece like. It's part number WUN-8110025 on Nippy's website. Clips onto the top of the screen and is multi adjustable for angle.

Do they make the screen wobble around. Does it get in the way of the eyeline.

PS: I cannot afford a Givi screen.

Any comments appreciated.

I experienced the same problems (with the same set up as you have now - 1200GS, Adv screen), until I fitted the Wunderlich spoiler. The fact that it's variable helps greatly to ensure that you get a solution that suits you. Keeps the crap off your visor too.

Great bit of kit.:thumb

Snerkler.

Yes I just saw your post thanks.

So if the Wunderlich version is better on the noise front what is it like for vision. Seems you might have to look through it rather than over it ? What about in the rain.

Oh and does it cause the screen to wobble by putting that weight on the top edge ?

I can easily see over both to be honest, even if I duck a little. If you're a bit shorter you may end up looking through, but you can lower the Wunderlich on. The TT one causes more screen wobble but it's not bad at all. Can't say I noticed any more wobble with the Wunderlich one to be honest.
I don't know if this kind of thing will bother you but the TT one looks a lot better than the Wunderlich one. Also it's much easier to fit and take off. The Wunderlich one is semi permanent in that it secures with some adhesive tape as well as screws which clamp onto the screen via a thin piece of metal. I would say the TT one looks and feels more robust.

Thanks Snerkler

All good information.

No probs. Out of interest how tall are you? I'm 6'4" and if I have the seat on the low option vitually all noise and buffeting is eliminated. It's actually quite eerie how quiet it is (I have the main screen fully upright BTW). However, I'd rather put up with a bit more noise and more leg room hence having the seat on the high setting.
I don't know what the difference will be like on a standard GS as mine's the adventure, but I see you have the adventure screen so I can't imagine there's much in it :thumb2

I am about 6' 2" and I have the seat set high at front, low at back.

With my "hunchback" I just about look over the adventure screen at the moment that is why I thought the extender would be right in my eyeline/I would have to look through it.

Maybe the difference in eye line is due to the higher GSA seat as my eye line is well above. I'm surprised you feel the need for an extender then. You could always tilt the screen back more (and hence lower it) if the extender interfere's with your view, which in theory would be better anyway.
One thing to know is the actual bracket part sits a bit higher off the top of the screen with the Wunderlich one (see photos of mine) so maybe that's worth a consideration (although mine set pretty high)

Compared with the TT one (not taken any pics of it on mine yet)

I have my screen in an upright position largely because of the way I have my satnav mount set, it does not allow me to lower the screen back by much.

The jet engine noise I suppose is no worse than some of my bikes of old with fairings but I am just getting a little tired of it and it would be so nice to ride in a nice silent bubble (wishful thinking).

I reckon I should bodge some ear defenders inside a crash helmet - that would be the answer, if only !

Anyway you have given me plenty to ponder, most helpful thanks.

TT one looks better and does what its supposed to do IMHO :thumb Had the ADV screen on the last 1200, got half way through France and tried out the extender ( not mine) so much reduction in wind noise I found myself trying to find another gear as I could hear the engine noise...

Just been out on a longish run again with the TT screen extension and have to say that it does not reduce the wind noise anywhere near as well as the Wunderlich one IMO. Better than without, but not as good as the Wunderlich one, probably only about 50% as good. I think they could have done with making it an inch or so taller.

Just got a TT one fitted to my GSA: And I also wear in ear protectors/speakers. Basically the bike was pretty good before regarding buffeting/wind noise - but now it's just about perfect.
However I'm acutely aware that we are all different in terms of what we think is normal or acceptable in terms of noise when riding a bike. :rob

I accept a certain level of noise as after all I'm on a bike. I don't want to feel totally cut off. I am a little disappointed in the TT one though, it's great up to about 55mph, above that it's pretty noisy. It's a shame as the TT one suits the bike well, but the Wunderlich one looks pretty pants, and have never particularly liked the look of it on the bike. But I think it's going to be a matter of function over form on this one. I'm wondering if you can cut a laminar lip down to fit the TT extension?
Being tall is a nuisance sometimes.

I'm 6'1 and have used the Wunderlich for day trips of up tp 1000km. I find it is brilliant, no buffeting of my head and I use an Arai TourX lid. Before buying the Wunderlich I would remove the peak for long distances but there's no need now.

After emailing TT about the screen extender height they inform me that they have all different shapes and sizes for different bikes. Had a quick look on their website and the one for the standard GS is higher than the GSA one and would probably suit me better :blast
Watch this space as I'll be selling one, or maybe two (depending if I decide to try the GS extension) of the screen extensions

Stick the adventure screen on ebay and with the proceeds buy a Givi airflow and take the Mrs out for a nice dinner.

No more buffeting and a buffet all at the same time:)

Hi guys,

I have a 2010 GSA and have tried both the TT extn screen for the standard GS and it is a lot taller than the TT extn for the GSA. I'm 6'4" and have the GSA seat on the highest setting. I still get buffetting but with either model fitted I can ride at most speeds with my helmet visor up. I wear ear plugs too which keeps the wind noise down. I have a major gripe though with the extenders and that is when I ride in the rain, the extender blocks normal airflow and even though I have a pinlock visor (Schuberth C3) I get misting up problems at low speed and have to really sit up to get better airflow. If I remove the extender problem solved though I can't ride with the visor up at all.

Just what I was thinking :thumb2

I've ridden a GSA and my GS with Airflow screen back-to-back and the Givi was definitely better for someone of my height (5' 8.5" with short legs/long torso like a gorilla :D ) and half the price.
