Wunderlich-Adjustable Screen Extension. Any good ?

Hi guys,

I have a 2010 GSA and have tried both the TT extn screen for the standard GS and it is a lot taller than the TT extn for the GSA. I'm 6'4" and have the GSA seat on the highest setting. I still get buffetting but with either model fitted I can ride at most speeds with my helmet visor up. I wear ear plugs too which keeps the wind noise down. I have a major gripe though with the extenders and that is when I ride in the rain, the extender blocks normal airflow and even though I have a pinlock visor (Schuberth C3) I get misting up problems at low speed and have to really sit up to get better airflow. If I remove the extender problem solved though I can't ride with the visor up at all.

John which would you say works better the TT GSA spoiler or TT GS one in terms of noise and buffeting? I was just about to order the GS one to try and then flog whichever I don't like so much, but I see you're the same height as me and have the seat in the same position so you could save me the hassle.
My thought are that the GS one would be better as is about 3cm taller. I find that if I duck a touch with the GSA one the noise and buffeting is vastly reduced, so thought having the GS one might be the same but without having to duck?

Here's the TT GSA one on my bike to compare with the Wunderlich one.

Here's the three spoilers for comparison (from left to right, Wunderlich, TT GS, TT GSA)

Had the first trip out today with the GS TT one, but it was very blustery so difficult to give a fair verdict. My initial thoughts though are that it's less noisy and less turbulent than both the Wunderlich and TT GSA one. However, for those 6'3" and under you might find the GS one gets in your eyeline as it's just OK for me.

You are a genius............brilliant detail, thanks. All one could ever want to know.

Are you now opening a screen extender shop ?

No probs, I could never find a good comparison so thought I'd do the post for others in the same position :thumb2

Haha, I think I need to. 2 of the spoilers will be going on fleabay shortly. I'm hoping to do a back to back trial on a calm day and then pick the one that suits me best. I'll need to get some new tape for the Wunderlich one though as it's lost its stickiness.
On pure looks I think the TT GSA one is the best, but I don't think it's tall enough for me as it doesn't block out as much noise as the Wunderlich one. If only I was 2" shorter  So I think it's going to be between the Wunderlich one and TT GS one.

TT extension

Have had a TT extension on my GS1200 since early 2005. Have removed it a couple of times because it looks a little dopey. Quickly put it back because it makes a huge difference. When riding in crosswind it is still noisy, but in reasonably calm weather it is as good as a screen can be. I am 6'2 [well I used to be] and have always stuggled with buffetting on my bikes. Bought a Shoei hat last year and that was a huge improvement over the old AGV. Probly because the old one was 15years old! I have not ridden a 1200RT. I wonder if that would be quiet all of the time? They are so bloody dear here in Oz that I'm not game to test ride one. :rob

I have recently put a TT GSA screen extender onto the standard GSA screen. It does reduce the wind noise, but perhaps by only 50% or so.

I don't really get buffeting unless there is a cross wind and I haven't tried it at autobahn speeds, where of course I expect a lot more noise.

I haven't noticed much vibration on the screen either.

I am 6'4" and with long legs. I feel the TT GSA extension could be a bit higher and unless I am missing something, it is not adjustable.

Wunderlich on R1200GS

Have had the Wunderlich extension for a couple of months. Before would struggle because of the wind and turbulence (I'm 6 foot and using BMW Sport helmet). Since fitting the extension, has been an improvement. Still wind (how it should be) but the banging on the side of the helmet is almost gone.

The windscreen threads are the longest.
The most effective way to get better and quieter airflow is to buy an RT.
Or an Aeroflow, but then you have to live with the looks.
The add-on tabs from TT and Wunderlich will make a difference, but any turbulent air from side-winds or riding behind a van or 4-wheel drive will rattle your head and ruin your ears.
Its the GS problem - so good to do miles on, but then you get to spend longer listening to the noise...
Have you tried earplugs - they fix everything and cost sod-all ... and the doctor recommends them too. ( Also great when SWMBO is having an isuue...)

earplugs!!!

Yes - yet another screen question !!!
I have a standard 1200GS with winglets and bigger adventure screen.
What I am really bothered with is wind noise. I expect to get a bit of buffeting, but the noise is excessive. Unless I duck my head right down behind the screen, which is not practical for a tall deformed git like me, it is a bit like having my head in a jet engine even with ear plugs.
I would question wether you are putting ear plugs in correctly? I've found that if you dont put them right in snuggly (all the way into your ear canal), then nosie is still a problem. In my oppinion well fitted good quality earplugs is the best cheapest solution to screen noise issue.:thumb2
