Wunderlich Grill = foam strip curious

Recently I acquired a wunderlich radiator grill for an 1100GS all fine but can anyone tell me what the foam self adhesive strip does and where it goes. It's not mentioned in the instructions at all.

I think on the 12 it goes on the oil cooler to stop rubbing I guess, maybe same on the 11? Note tho, mine fell apart and Ive heard others have as well so I have cable ties on the mesh to frame now (assuming its similar to the one on the 12). I'd put some on as a preventative.
