Bit premature this, as I haven't got my Adv. yet, but:

Considering the size of the Adv., and obviously my limited experience of the bike on hauling it onto it's centre stand, I was tinking of the validity of one the handles that Wunderlich produce and sell:

1. Are they worth the expense? (£73 for a handle?)
2. Where exactly do they mount?
3. Who has an innovative alternative? What did you use? Did it work? Got any pics?!!!!!!

Depends how big / small you are, but I find the pannier rail works well at keeping the bike steady as I lift on to the stand

The 1150 is well balanced and goes onto the centre stand much easier (IMHO) than the lighter 1200.

Get the bike, try without and if it is difficult consider investing in a handle.

wow

That sound like a lot of money for a handle is it gold plated, have no problem with the 1150 goes onto the stand very easy,(and I'm not super strong) best to do as advised before get the bike and then see, maybe you could make or get made a cheaper handle.

That's a silly amount of money for what it is IMO.

As an alternative, I'd try a bit of black webbing ...a foot or so, wraped around the frame above the pillion footrest would do the same job for 1/73rd of the price.

It might take some thinking about how to make a strong loop out of the stuff, but I'd certainly not pay 73 quid for a handle

My own solution is actually similar...I carry a four foot length of 10mm ID 3mm walled silicone tubing that just lies in the bottom of my pannier...I've used it a few times for syphoning fuel in or out of tanks, petrol cookers etc, and I also use it to lift the bike up from awkward angles when I drop it greenlaning on me own.......or (and this is how I realised it could be used like this) if I drop it on top of my DRZ400 in a very small concrete yard with no space to lift anything ;)

Thanks for the replies chaps!

I've only tried hoiking it onto the centre stand on a test ride, and found it a bit intimidating! Mind you, I'm used to squat sports bikes that are an entirely different kettle of fish and most of them (apart from my ZZR1100) don't have centre stands anyway.

I'll now stop being such a tart.

;)

Don't see the point of the handle myself. They're really easy to get on the stand. I just grab the bike by the sub-frame bar that the rear peg mounts off and lift.

RE; LIFTING HANDLE

Fanum,
a bit more info on that tubimg idea.... do you thread webbing thro the tubing to make a loop?
& what's the procedure for righting when the steed has stumbled?

After a bout of tennis elbow in my right arm I've discovered that the Adv can be hoiked onto its stand without using right arm at all.
Just push on stand with foot and guide up with left hand on handklebar. It's all in the timing.

P.J...there's a good thread HERE all about picking them up, and there have been others too if you want to read more (use the search button for that ;) )

I can't lift mine like they show in the link on that thread......I have to face the bike rather than putting my back to it because my generously proportioned arse gets stuck on the seat and I can't get the angle right to pull it all the way up....so I grab the bar end, and either the pillion footrest frame and lift, or if it's in an awkward position (like lying downhill or ontop of the DRZ  ) I just feed the silicone tube through the frame then wind it round mt wrist and get a good grip on it.

All it does really is gives me more space to be able to lift safely.

BTW, there's another rule about picking up a dropped buike if you're a GSer.......

You've got to take a pic first ;)

Agreed.......and it does help to be 19 stone ;)

Even then, I sometimes have a bit of a job doing it because of my VErnatechs and that I always raise mine onto the turntable trolley so I can turn her around on my small patch of concrete.......that means I've got to raise the whole thing over an arc that's an inch taller to start of with
