Just a warning to check if you have these levers fitted to your bike. Out today in Lincolnshire, reached for clutch lever to change up and gripped onto...

A whole load of fresh air:eek:

The lever is in two parts, the bit that connects to the cable and the bars and the lever part itself. These are connected by a peg with a circlip underneath. It appears that the circlip has come off (or wasn't there in the first place?), the peg has worked its way up and eventually fallen out. The lever has then gone for a solo tour of Lincolnshire :tears.

I have been told that a batch of these levers came without the circlip fitted. You can't tell when they are in the packaging as it is underneath the lever and comes in shrink-wrap. Just worth checking if you have these fitted or are fitting them. I was okay as I was accelerating at the time, but could be a bit alarming if you're trying to slow down rapidly for a corner when it falls off:eek:

Got nearly the same problem with a genuine BMW clutch lever on my '06 GSA, while on a week-long 1.000 miles trip to France, the little groved "adjuster" snapped off and as I was slowing down from 85mph, in the wet, before a French toll...
...I pulled the lever all the way until it touched the handlebar grip!!!
I had never downshifted without de-clutching before, pretty scary, especially while fully loaded with pillion, all boxes filled up, etc... in the middle of a storm with heavy downpours and 50mph gusts!!!
I guess I'll ask for a new clutch lever at my next servicing!
(...for free in my dreams, I doubt very much that will come under BMW warranty!)

cheers for that, just checked mine and look ok, nothings missing!
but ill def be keeping an eye on themm in the future, glad your ok though, and managed to keep it all shiney side up!
:beerjug:

I have Wunderlich Variolevers to both my R1200s and R1200gsa.
I have no problem with them but can see how the circlip coming off the underside could be a problem. Pazzo levers have a lock nut instead.

A blob of oil to stop any corrosion that could 'snag' the circlip and weaken it is the best I can suggest - made sure I greased mine before I fitted them but if you go off road a lot then its going to be a dirt trap in there only made worse by jet washing it and not replacing the oil.

The worst problem is that once you fit the OE adjuster on the levers have 2 points of adjustment. Get that wrong and any 'slipping' of the new adjuster could see you pulling on air.
