Has anyone got anything planned? It should be a massive mark of respect all year long.

I don't have a clue as to where to start with organising something like this so was hoping to either join a group already going or find someone experienced willing to get it going.

Word of warning ..... I have only just passed my test (at age 49) and am looking to get a GS in March.

Any helpful advice gratefully received.

Hi, did a lot of the WW1 battle sites last year. Have considered going back. We stayed near Arras on a pleasant campsite. Loads around there, Passcehndale, Thiepval, Lochnagar, Wellington mines, Vimy Ridge. Visited Maison Blanc, the largest German cemetry. From there we found a small campsite in Ypres and did the Menin Gate, walked round the ramparts as there are a few cemeteries there and visited a museum just up the road.

Deffo a trip worth doing if you have an interest in that kind of thing. I'm not at home at the mo but if you want I can dig out the campsite details when I am.

Best thing is not to have a strict plan as lots of people like to travel when n where they fancy on the day, a loose plan generally works best.

Absolutely congratulations on passing your test. :clap

I'm sure someone will be organising something at some point but in the meantime here's a write up of a short trip I did by car in February that might give you some pointers of places to go/where to stay.

Wapping has also been known to organise 'Open invite' rides for 1st timers to Europe, usually a long weekend, for those who want to dip their toes into biking abroad with the confidence of knowning granny is on-hand to offer a few very useful tips.
Keep an eye out for those & sign up for one - you'll have a great time.

Enjoy the bike & welcome aboard.

Perhaps I may have jumped the gun slightly but thanks for the warm welcomes.

The links should keep me busy for most of the weekend .... Cheers!

Thinking about organising something for mid-late July to avoid the rush :)

Could be interested if the dates work out. I only get school holidays off with my job.

The excellent Tour Guide Captain, me old mucker MikeP is unavailable, so I have decided to drag my 14yo grandson under the channel in the car.

Last week of July - 2 nights in Ypres and 2 nights in Arras.

Wave if you see a black and white Yeti looking lost.
