I have read that the alternators on these are not particularly good.

Is the x-challenge alternator capable of supplying power to the headlights, a GPS and a gerbings heated jacket and gloves?

Any help appreciated.

I've run mine (Xcountry) with the headlight on, heated jacket and heated grips .... still showed over 12 volts on the voltmeter when running :thumb

No probs .....

It can run all of those but if the fan kicks in the 280w output won't be enough to keep the battery charged. You can use the 400w off the F650 if you want. Or just turn a few things off if you hear the fan start up. It's only really a problem if your in 1st/2nd for a long period and also if the rad gets clogged up with mud if you keep the standard fender setup.

Thanks all, sort of ok as long as the fan isn't working!

Has anybody explored the option of getting there current stator rewound to take the extra load?
Is it an option?
What be the possible reasons not to get a rewind?
Cheers

Just being browsing the reprom technical section and it states the stator as being 400w for the X challenge.

Can anyone corroborate this?

Reprom isn't that reliable. I have a 400w stator and pickup from a F650gs here which I was going to put in my XC. Decided not to mess with it in the end as it's only the fan issue that causes problems and I have a low fender which stops any muck getting in the rad.

PM me if you want the stator and pick up. I paid £25 for it.
