X Challenge - Can it commute and green lane

Hi, I currently have a 02 Dakar for commuting and my lovely Beta Alp 4 for green laning. Could i kill two birds with one stone and run an x challenge instead?. I need to travel 26 miles from Hertfordshire into Paddington 3 times a week and then green lane at the weekend.

Yes it would do it easily. The limiting factor is tyres, in that you'd need MT21s to have a reasonable time on the road and still do slightly challenging off-roading.

I think so, the saddle isn't that hard for 26 miles, they are light enough on petrol and have a nice bit of poke in them.

Yep

I've done the 70km (40miles) to work & 70km back a few times. It struggles a tad on the motorway section but redeems itself brilliantly in traffic & around town. Saddles not too bad. And the little 'fairing' over the headlight does a surprisingly good job of keeping some of the wind off your chest. As Gaz says the MT21s aren't too bad on the road but will wear quicker than road tyres. Just buy yourself a spare set of wheels & tyres when you sell the Dakar & Beta

Yeah. But why?

You already have a great commuter AND a great trail bike.

It's those of us with only one bike that have to do the compromise thing.

it completes both tasks with ease

I reckon it would do this no problem.

I find about one hour max on the road at a time before the plank seat and the vibes in the bars get to me.

I use padded cycling shorts! Trail ride all without any problems. Dont know about wearing them to commute though!
