Finding that during trail riding the electric fan is busy, too much I think!
I do try to keep the rad clean, hosing it out at every opportunity, removing most of the shit allowed there by the poor oem fender protection.
So, I have fired an enquiry to a UK based radiator manufacturer about a full width aluminium rad.
I see that Touratwat do one, but it is coming in at nearly £900 for the kit in the UK and 799euro in Germany....

Has anybody else had issues with the excessive engine heat during use off tarmac? If so, would you be interested in a UK made rad kit?
As soon as i have a price, I will post it here.

Timpo.

be interested but price would have to be a lot lower as it is a want, not need purchase.

Paging Losttheplot....................he had exactly this during last years HUMM. I had it happen once or twice on some knarly stuff but it turned out to be a knackered fan that the bearings had seized on. Changed the fan and its been fine since, even in Spain.

I've changed the thermo switch on the Husaberg to cut in at a higher temp than standard, perhaps it's an option for the XC?:nenau

Another option may be to fit a second radiator fan on the other side (i.e. sharing the workload), if this is possible with an XC. I once did this mod to a KTM LC4.

Cheers,

Ian.

Looking at the TT radiator....

It may be possible to fit one from a Husaberg? These are quite cheap.

Yup. i had problems with the bike over heating in spain this summer.

The touratwat rad is actually made by a company called GMX radiators (think they are based in essex).

http://www.gmxradiators.co.uk/
They made the rads for the TT rally bikes. They hadn't sold any since ( i wonder why :augie), but were prepared to supply the radiator and kit, plus any over the phone support to fit for £500.

the radiator isn't just full width, IIRC the core is much thicker- a figure of about 40mm springs to mind, but don;t quote me on it- this was about 5 months ago.

Square pegs in to round holes........ anything is possible-ish!:D
You have a spare 'berg rad there Tim?

Kinda demonstrates how much of an ass raping touratech are doing to their customers to. theres not many businesses i know that put on an 80% mark up.

I don't but I could measure it up for you, they go for £30/70 on Ebay. I think the fan kits (which aren't standard) are around £60.

Is it possible your thermo switch is too low for the XC as was the case with the Berg causing the fan to come on when it's not really needed?
I'd also thought to fit an additional direct on/off switch much like the Rallye bike had.

Hey Timpo
I was out with some mates last year and my DRZ overheated twice, one of the lads recomended i should try icewater made by putolene. He's a keen competitor in Trails and enduro and says all the lads are using it. My drz's not overheated since. Worth a try for £20..

Indeed the TT rads were made there.:thumb2

GMX are quoting a lot higher price today for this kit, it's actually more than TT in Germany are selling it for......:(
I will call GMX tomorrow, but I was thinking of seeing if there was enough interest and making a batch of rads would bring the price down considerably.

Drog, the ice water is one avenue, but it's not my best option in my opinion.
And..... a DRZ overheating!! I never had that one either of mine....:nenau

Timpo.

Has anyone tried removing the stat? Removing it may increase water flow and improve cooling.

I know the DRZe runs without either a stat or fan while the DRZs has both. I can't remember ever overheating my DRZe in 25k miles despite trying hard.

I might do this to reduce the amount of mud:D

80% is not particularly high

Kinda demonstrates how much of an ass raping touratech are doing to their customers to. theres not many businesses i know that put on an 80% mark up.

I think that you will find most businesses put at least this on anything that is relatively low volume.......most probably closer to 100%

I'm stilling going on this, having had a few quotes in now.
Some how GMX are quoting a price higher than TT are selling the kit in Germany..... how's that work?:nenau

So, what would you folk say you would pay for a full width rad kit?
I need to get an idea on numbers as GMX are asking what sort of numbers would be required before they can give a 'good' price...... isn't this catch22!:thumb

I wouldn't go more than £350 tops.

I thought £500 was to much at the time i enquired, especially when you look at other products that GMX sell, that seem to have a similar amount of work involved, but just fit other bikes.:nenau

I have had a 'ball-park' quote back from one UK manufacturer and it ain't far from your 'tops' price....
Where GMX are getting the prices from i just don't know?:nenau
I have sent another email asking for them to look at the quote again, failing that i will persue the cheaper quote further.
