X Challenge improvements

Got the Xcountry and yes indeed, the standard fuelling leaves a lot to be desired. Had mine down to Geoff at Hilltop and what a difference. Pulls like a steam train, much much smoother, will trickle along in a thirty limit in fourth gear and will pull cleanly away :thumb

I might give Geoff and call about re-mapping in future! thanks for the advice!

Also i need a workshop manual, I did a search on here and some people mention about buying the dvd from ebay and it arriving blank!

Does anyone have a link to download or a pdf then can email?

Worth getting valve clearances checked. Had mine done @ 10000 miles just inside limits but changed them just to be sure

Sorry to hijack your thread but i have just bought the xchallenge air shock to fit on my xcountry. Does anybody know if it will fit?
Thank you all.

I might check them tomorrow, I'm going to do the plugs anyway so its easy enough while I'm there, the bike is on 11k so hopefully they are within spec

Mounts are the same. Not sure 're clearance for the air shock when under compression (was an upgraded plastic mud flap on the challenges as the early design rubbed on the shock). Unsprung length may be different but easy enough to check. Can either grow or chop your legs accordingly :D

+1 for Hilltop remap. I rode out of Hilltop and bike was a lot different. Smooth progressive power when needed. No flat spots and still good economy

So I did the clearances today,

The figures i found through google are

0.03 - 0.11 Intake
0.25 - 0.33 Exhaust

Can anyone confirm these?

Anyway i checked what i had and i was smack in the middle for both of them! 0.05 intake and 0.30 exhaust!

I also stripped the FI unit down and cleaned all the filth from inside, along with doing the spark plugs and cleaning the air box!

I have a new air filter to put in and an extra piece of foam I am going to make a pre-filter with!

I rang my local BMW dealer today and they want stupid money for a workshop manual on DVD!

Does anyone have a download link or PDF to send?

Thank you gfj, you are the go to man with regard to the g650x.

Fortunately there's many on here who are far more knowledgeable and experienced than I on these bikes, which is good as collectively most issues get shared and problems get solved:beerjug:

Have you had a look in the "quick reference thread"? there is stacks of information in there. Would be surprised if valve clearances weren't listed.

Can any G650 gurus tell me what this spare connector under the seat is for?

Also this small rubber bung thing fell off from my subframe when i was taking it off, anyone know where it goes?

Spare connector is for Carbon bottle for American market. Rubber bung may be off sump

I also picked up some new chain roller bearings today, bought them from my local bearing supplier at a fraction of the BMW list price!
