Have the TT tank installed and just plumbed in the "alternative way", ie not using TT's questionable drilling method.

Lots talked about on ADV and elsewhere about using a T-Piece into the breather under the seat to suck the fuel from the new TT tank into the existing tank etc etc - so this is the way I've gone.

I think however my plumbing is somewhat incorrect as, when I filled up the TT tank after the install, all the fuel began pouring out of the breather! :blast

Anyone got a decent pic of how they've hooked up the fuel lines under the seat so I can see how it should look?!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry can't help I did mine the questionable way, and it works perfectly, if I leave the taps open it all acts as one tank. Only thing I have to remember is to fill and seal the original tank first.

Hopefully some one will give you the info you need but may I asks what's questionable about the drilling method? I added quick release self sealing fuel line connections, so I can remove the tank or siphon as required. Also with the supplied taps can empty and shut of the TT tank and just use the original tank.

Sorry, poor choice of language - not suggesting the way Touratech intended you carry out the install was questionable at all (clearly they know more than I do!), more that I personally didn't fancy removing and drilling the stock tank.

The alternate method of tapping into the breather seemed like the easy route for me... I should know by now though, nothing's ever that easy!

Ive plumbed mine into the breather, attached fuel hose to the breather, put an inline filter about 6" from the breather then carried on the plumbing to the taps , the T piece is so you can link up the left and right tap on the touratech tank and then a single fuel line to the breather. Sorry no pics, bike in the garage and its dark.:thumb2

Ahhhh - so, I think I see the error of my understanding!

I have 2 T-pieces. One joining the left and right taps together, BUT I've chopped the breather hose and put another one on there! Eejit!

So if I understand correctly, I should just disconnect the breather and then attach instead the "new" fuel line (minus the superfluous T-Piece #2) and Bob's my Uncle? What happens to the standard breather, just leave that in place but disconnected?

Working backwards from the pump in the bottom of the standard tank.

Standard Tank (ST) with standard pump in
to
Breather hose out of top of ST
to
In-line fuel filter
to
Tee-piece joining both Touratwat fuel cocks together.
to
Ttwat tank
to
Ttwat fuel tank cap
to
Ttwat cap breather hose
to
Atmosphere.

Got it cheers.

My stupidity has introduced a second t piece where it's not needed.

I shall brave the elements and go and rectify!

No need to apologise my guess is most people just don't fancy drilling the tank and that why i got Mikeyboy to do it! just wonder if the breather setup operates as well as the TT method?

Never had a problem with mine Ian, just turn off the two touratech tank taps before I fill the original tank, fill up original, fill up touratech tank. Do 30 - 40 miles then turn on both touratech taps and jobs a good un:thumb2

No need.
Run the tanks empty, for example fuel light illuminated.
At fuel station open both tank fillers, keep ST filler close by and fill the standard tank first and put the cap on asap, then fill Ttwat tank to whatever you will need for over 100 miles (a rough guide to what a ST will get you), put the nozzle back and put the Ttwat cap on, hey presto you're fully fuelled for over 300 miles of fast road work, etc.
The fuel supply to the pumps still is delivered from the bottom of the ST, but as the pump takes fuel from the ST, it draws fuel through the ST breather from the bottom of the TTwat tank, and as the fuel is drawn out of the TTwat tank, the breather in the top of the TTwat tank lets air in from atmosphere....... easy innit!

The TTwat tank can be removed at anytime and the ST is still as new, with no holes to plug, leak or hide...whatever, it's as new.

Very timely thread...looking at fitting my tank at some point over the next couple of months and trying to decide the best of the two methods!

By far the easiest is via the breather under the seat, and after 3 yrs I have not found any drawbacks of this method.

OK, just to revive this slumbering thread a little... every time I fill both tanks (standard first, then TT) I get some fuel leakage from the locking cap on the standard tank.

When I say "some", I mean A LOT! Lifting the paint off the garage floor quantities!

Easy fix anyone...please?!

Easy fix is to fill standard tank with the fuel taps on the touratech tank closed, then fill touratech tank and only open the fuel taps once you have done 40 miles or so. And as suggested maybe replace the fuel cap seal.

Cheers - got some rubber sheet on order so hopefully I can cut myself a new cap gasket/seal and that'll sort the issue.

To be fair, the cap used to leak after a fill-up anyway even before the TT tank went on.

Your ST cap should not have fuel at it's level if your fuelled the ST tank up on the bike's sidestand.
The only way the level will rise is if there is an airleak through the cap, therefore if there is gas in the Ttwat unit, and at a level higher than the ST cap, then there may be some syphon/levelling effect in to the ST and this will lead to a leak.

Loan a cap off someone else and see if the leak continues......

OK, really silly question here: Which way (and I guess one side is the reverse of the other?) is on, which way is off and which way is reserve on the taps on the TT Tank?

For the life of me I can't see the markings! :nenau
