X tank fitting

Hi all I've just purchased an x challenge I want to set it up for touring I've been trawling the posts and gleaned some great info, I think I'm going to go for an x tank, so was wondering if any of you guys have fitted one and what's involved.

I took one on a 8000 mile trip last year. Good bit of kit, easy to fit, and the plumbing is simple.

It picks up using 4 existing mounts on the subframe, 2 of which are where the rear rack mounts. A little ingenuity and you can keep your rack to.

Pretty straight forward really

Cheers for that ,I've found a guy local to me that is going to make me a rear subframe and a rack , so I'm going the x tank route I took for its ist outing today it was good fun, there was a couple of issues I will have to deal with, the air shock will take some getting used to but overall I thought it was great, 8000 miles sounds like a great trip did you have any issues with the bike ? .

Most people get rid of the airshock and go for a Hyperpro or Wilbers setup. Personally, I have a Hyperpro rear. btw, plenty of threads on the subject, I'm not trying to start a new one....

I think I'm going to go the hypro route , I've tried a few settings with the air shock and either bottom out or the rebound hits me up the arse.

Just bought an 2008 X Challenge myself the posts make interesting reading.... still a popular machine amongst those in the know ..mine is bog stock too ..I think we will both be knocking on Hyperpros door very soon....

I think your right rob what mods are you intending to carry out ? I've got my head round it now that I'm going to have to spend a few quid was you thinking of going the Dutch route? I think I've found a guy to make the steel subframe the only thing that worries me slightly is why is no one else is making them other than touretech I've been told you have to purchase the pannier system as well as the subframe which is bloody expensive, this guy reckons it won't come to no more than £200 .

Ive fitted touratech pannier rails to my bog standard subframe on the x challenge, just required a couple of brackets making to attach the lower arms where the rear footpegs attach.

I too am planning to go the HyperPro route. It's not cheap unfortunately and I can't afford to replace the front forks with uprated ones at the same time. I'm saving for a new rear HyperPro shock and upgraded front fork springs with new oil.

Wonder if we could get a group discount if a few of us went to Bas?

It would be good if we could get a discount, what about fuel are you going to add more capacity the wiring is something else I'm going to think about, the funny thing is I haven't started the mods yet as I'm enjoying riding it

I bought an XTank and XRack from Hotrod Welding last month so that's the fueling sorted

Wiring, I splurged on the Rowe Electronics PDM60 too, overkill but ...

Next up is new wheels first as I'm on an x Country and then the HyperPro stuff.

Nice one have you got the steel subframe , I fancy an x tank also , what is a Rowe pdm60 sorry about the ignorance I'm a bit useless with the mechanic electric side of things , but. Getting there slowly

The 2009 model has a steel subframe so all good there. The pdm60 is a glorified fusebox to wire in more accessories. The clever bit is that there are no fuses as its all clever electrics. Its fully programmable from a PC too.
