Was playing with the Xbox 360 today and it started to freeze up (can microsoft make anything that don't crash )

After a few google search I found that there is a known heat issue that goes back to 2005. So I have left it alone and see what happens when I go back to it later today or tomorrow.

Anyone had this happen to their console and does it mean it's dead? :nenau

It's fecked :(

Can't believe what a pile of crap it really is.

I've heard about the 'red light of death' or something similar...is this your affliction?

XBOX 360

My son has just recieved his second replacement in 3 years. The original one failed about 18 months ago,and was replaced with a new one free of charge, then the replacement failed after another 18 months.I rang the helpline not expecting any joy,i gave them the serial number and they emailed me a UPS pre paid label .The unit was then picked up and sent to Germany for testing,4 days later they sent us another replacement.I suggest you have a look on the XBOX website and give them a ring,i found them very helpful:thumb2

oh that sounds hopeful .. do you have the helpline number or link to it?

Thanks! :thumb2

Our Xbox 360 has been fine so far, don't know when we bought it, except it was when GTA4 came out, which makes it under a year old.

However, the controller which came with it was defective, but a call to the support line meant we got a new replacement controller sent out without the need to send the old one back.

And it wasn't "Algernon" in Calcutta we spoke to either... :augie

Wrong about the age of our machine, sales receipt was dated 7th June 2008. That'll teach me to believe anything in Wikipedia... :blast

...anyway, the phone number for Customer Support as stated on a leaflet in the original box is

0800 587 1102.

Hope it still works. :thumb2

Rang the number and it's just a computer talking to you. Telling you the obvious .. i.e. unplug everything and put it back in again :blast

So decided to get on the website and log a message with them. hope a real and competent person responds.

Hope they will fix it.

I can't believe my recent experience to try and get the xbox fixed :blast

This is the world's largest (in market share and financial clout) company in the world and yet their website is shit and doesn't work. I really hate Microsoft.

This is my experience ...

1. After calling the number above it encourages you to use the website, which I also prefer as I know most call centre staff are pretty poorly paid poor trained poorly motivated people. So I go on the site
2. I logon using the Live account that the console is registered to .. it doesn't have the record :blast .. try to re-register as indicated on the site but turns into an error message. Actually it first tells me that it is already registered (no shit) then it just gave me an error message
3. Call to call centre. it takes about 25minutes to get through to someone (thank goodness its a 0800 number) as the first 15 minutes is used to tell you to use the website :blast
4. Finally reach a CSR and to give her credit she was pretty good. Got the console registered properly. However she advises me to try to sort it out myself one more time, so I took the instructions for how to clear the cache on the HD.
5. xbox now won't even turn on :blast
6. So go back to website and press the start repair button ... :blast :tears :blast ... error message
7. Call the call centre again .. another 25minutes wait. Then the CSR tells me (via her script) to try to resolve the problem myself .. ARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! ... I didn't swear .. actually I started almost crying and just kept saying please can you not tell me the scipt that I have heard before and just start the repair process for me.
8. The final part is for her to transfer me to the payments dept .. it was busy, so she said she will organise a call back within the next 24 hours. However she insist on asking me for a specific time and I insist that she will fail (like all call centres except first direct to meet this promise) but she insisted. So I said call me at 10am, and she arranged for a call from 10am to the end of the morning for the payment dept to call back.
9. It is now 5pm and the phone hasn't rang all day :tears

Why is the richest computer company in the world such a pile of shit? Well .. it's because they are so rich and have a monopoly on key markets. The act like monopolists .. ie they just don't care.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T BUY XBOX this christmas. Buy a PS3 (same age, and used more because it's a bluray player and its still working!) or wii (far less complicated and again not broken and still works).

DON'T BUY MICROSOFT. IT WILL ONLY MAKE THEM WORST!!

I have to make that call to the call centre again :tears

We went through the RTM route six times in 9months and received 5 new but still faulty 360's.
Finally got one that works, and bought an after market cooler that slots on the back.

oh :blast I couldn't bear having to call that call centre six more times :blast

my 360, redringedofdeath last year - after 3 emails & one phone call & 3 weeks, one fixed xbox 360!
am now waiting for the new steering wheel after the recall i found today!
