Looking to disconnect the side stand switch. Does anyone have any advice/guidance on how to go about this

I did mine on my Beta Alp last week - I couldn't find any info. But as there's only three wires I just tried all combinations til I got it right. 2 mins max.

(If it's the same as the HP2 - brown connects to white)

thank you for the reply. Just a thought does the cables from the side stand switch have a connection to a relay which may at a later date be an issue with starting/failing to start

My bike is in at Sawbridgeworth BMW at the moment and I asked the engineer if it was alright to bypass the sidestand switch and he said that you simply need to join the wires together, shouldn't cause any problems, he didn't tell me which ones to join if it is 3 wires, I assumed it was only 2 wires on the XC.

Before you start joining any wires together (if there are 3 wires) it is worth either checking the reprom or consulting a BMW engineer as the Speedo / electronics unit is the best part of £320 if you blow it, I know this because mine is being replaced :comfort

Timpo
my bike had the side stand switch removed prior to my ownership, you can have a look at the march moon to see how its done , you know me ime a numpty mechanically so ide rather you look than me try and explain whats been done!:thumb

More bodgery by me.

Connector

Does anyone happen to know the make and model of the connector that links the sidestand cable into the harness please? ... and more importantly where i can get one ? had a bit of an issue with the switch of late and would like to bypass the switch. i like to be able to return the bike to standard if i wanted to so making up a stub that fits into the harness without cutting up the original is my prefered way of doing it.

thanks

Did you manage to sort this out ?

I would like to do the same on my X Country

Did you manage to sort this out ?

no not yet, posted on advrider and got some suggestions including removing the microswitch from the sidestand, taping it up in the right position and putting safely under the seat. There's a little confusion as to which of the three wires need to be connected together and i havent found the wiring diagram to be especially helpful. So for now am looking to source a secondhand switch and cable to carry as an emergency spare.

Third wire.

But what is the brown wire......?:nenau

Somebody must have a wiring diagram......:(

Timpo.

Ive been given a rough G650 diagram (but not too clear JPEG) and I compared it to good copy of an F650GS diagram and they look similar.

As far as I can tell. The reason for the three wires is:
When the stand is up, it directs the negative side of the required (Motronic !) relay straight to the Battery Negative.
When it is down it directs the negative of the required (Motronic) relay through the Neutral Safety switch which then takes it to the battery negative, therefore enabling the motor to be started if the bike is in neautral, but the stand is down.

Hope that makes sense :eek

I think it gets slightly more confusing, as it may be that the colours of the wires in the loom (as shown on the wiring schematic) may well be different colours to those on the actual switch (as this is probably made by some other switch maker and not BMW themselves).
My reason for suspecting this is that the drawing appears to show the colours as Brown, Brown-Violet and Brown-Black for the F650 and three types of Brown on the G650 (the pic is very blurred and the colours may be in German !) whereas the pic posted earlier shows different colours.

When I get a chance I will have o look at my bike to see if it is any clearer.

I did mine about 18 months ago, I'll have a look when the sun comes up. Think it was short red and white. I did the clutch swith as well.

Cheers
Pete

Piggers description of function is correct.
The colors at the sidestandswitch are (out of wiringdiagram G650x):
brown-violet, coming from motronic relais
brown, ground minus
brown-violet-yellow, through a diode to neutralswitch
