XCh rear pad problem - with pics

I've changed these in the past with no problems.

But this time I cannot get two new full size pads in when the disk is in position.

The cylinder is pushed all the way back.
The pads sit fine when the wheel is out.
The wheel spins normally when the pads are out.

It seems the overall brake caliper is too close to the swinging arm, meaning there is not enough space for the 'inner' pad (the one nearest the wheel) to fit.
I'm sure I have the wheel spacers the right way round, the bigger one is on the side of the brake.

Am I doing something daft?

If you push the actual caliper inwards as you fit the inner pad it should be ok

I had to do this slightly with mine last week

The calliper should have some sideways float . if it doesnt it sounds like the calliper has seized on the pins. sounds like you may need to remove the calliper and clean up the mounting pins. were the old pads evenly worn when you took them off?

They shouldnt need bleeding, just remove the calliper from the calliper carrier. IIRC it is mounted on rubber sealed pins- which fill with crap and seize :-(.

It was the closest I could get to a pic of the mating call of the lesser spotted NorthWaleian Layaboutis, usually found underneath old bits of iron on hillsides.

Anyway, back on topic, I've drowned the slider in PlusGas and have given it the odd tap with a hammer. We'll see.
