Xchallenge dived in lake.

Ah well, the downside of riding on ice :D

Anyways, the electronical component you took a photo of is a Mosfet, some have the middle leg, some dont. Yours doesn't.
To burn off a leg of a Mosfet, it would take quite some current.

However, I guess that dash is dead for good.
I mean, you can always give it a try and take it to your local electronics wizard, but water damage is water damage.

Check all bearings outside of the motor (wheel bearings, linkage, swingarm, etc.). Seriously, if it were my bike, I would pull it apart completely, just to make sure.

Hi Ike,
I used a custom flasher relay, there are a lot on the internet ,i will probably wire in some indicator warning lights later.

Good luck.

The engine may well be ok with the oil changes. But it really needs to be used to make sure everything gets fully heated to drive off any remaining moisture. At least run it in all gears to splash oil about everywhere.

Afterwards keep a close watch for ball or roller bearings failing. The engine itself should be ok as they (usually) have soft metal shell bearings.

Wheel bearings may also be ok as they are grease packed. But the wheels need to come off the bike to empty any water from the hubs.

The forks and rear shock are sealed to keep the oil inside so should be fine.

The frame and box sections would benefit from spraying inside with ACF50. Use a pressure spray gun into the tubes. This will help water to run out and seal the metal against corrosion.

Good point Tee Bee. If rearframe or swingin arm is full of water and get frozen, then they will damage very bad! Better drill small holes there. Tomorrow gonna take first ride. I order original dash. But if you have aftermarket dash, how did you solve sideflashes? I understand, flashlights are controlled by dashboard?

Very lucky, pleased to see the bike running again after the submarine impression.

How did the First ride go? no ice crossing this time?

Bike runs very fine. Just so, like before accident, exept instrument cluster. Also Garmin zumo works well, but navigator´s rack failed.

Houdy! Winter is soon here again. Just remember this case, almost four years later...

Xhallenge is still on road. Driven now almost 60000 kilometers, make journey in Russia, Morocco and long tour in Europe. Also Garmin Zumo 500, which also make dive, is still on board. Battery is still same, Varta Amg.

Wreck components was dashboard, destroyed on dive.

Also Lower chaing guide roll bearings and side stand switch wreck later. I dont know, are those destroyed in dive.

Also reneved rear wheel bearings.

Thats the begingin story of my BMW. How I said, its still working. Hope I see another 60 thousen kilometers with it.

Cheers!

That you can submerge it and it still reaches 60000km just says what great bikes these are. The beginning story indeed :thumb

Brilliant - this fills me full of confidence. I am off to look at a X-Country tomorrow (same bike with milder running gear and comfy seat) - it is something I have toyed with for ages, having read this and seen the stripped down bike I am sure I will buy it, provided it fits me and it is in decent condition.

Good to see she still lives.
