Trailriding today and the bike packed in
Wouldn't re-start after a stop, dash would llight up then go off and no head/tailight
Checked all the fuses, sidestand switch..................but nada
Left bike and rode home 2-up on a Serow

Got the van and recovered the bike
Cleaned bike and then set to work to diagnose with my neighbour (electrician), everything was ok, however we wiggled the ignition with the key and the dash stayed on, so did the lights................bingo away she went
We could wiggle the key a few mm's in the On position and the dash/vehicle lights would go on and off at random
So could this be the problem???

Is the bike dead and won't start?
I had a similar problem in spain last summer. Turns out one of the pins on the ignition switch- the one thats located on the back of the ignition barrel had broken loose.
Just stripped the wires back and twisted them together to by pass the switch and it was all good again.
New switch is about £40 IIRC
My igntion barrel failed after 5k miles, no doubt due to the bashing it got from 75% of that being offroad.
It started to cut out intermittently, and not starting reliably. I thought it was side stand or fuelling, but I noticed that there was play in the key position and if I cable tied it (the key) in place it worked. So it got replaced under warranty.
