XChallenge luggage options?

Looking around for a luggage system for my xchallenge, and considering a soft pannier pack as the TT hard pannier system at £1100 is a bit on the steep side i think

has anyone tried the Giantloop system (imported by adventure spec)? It looks well thought out, but is the storage shape actually that useful (the volume figures look good)? and would it get roasted on the XC's exhaust?

What is everyone else using?

What are you looking for? a weekend away or a 2 week or longer trip?

I have done a few weekends away with other X-Challenges and a simple roll top bag strapped to the seat was fine. If you need panniers then soft panniers and frames could be cheaper and lighter. I think Wolfman do a set

I'm looking at doing a 2 week trip, camping out most nights, so i need to carry a tent, sleeping bag and mat as well as a few basics.

This is mine loaded for a week in Spain. It was Easter last year and there was still snow in the mountains. It is possible to pack light, even for cold weather.

bmw 40L waterproof duffel on rear of the seat. tent poles strapped on behind the duffel.

My tools are stashed around the bike. In the bag I have a stove, cooking stuff, sleeping bag, thermarest, clothes, washkit. I had a 2L jerry can and 2 tubes in the duffel as well. On the way home these went on the rack to make way for 6 bottles of wine.


You mentioned the giant loop. I have read about these and they seem very good. If I was looking at needing to carry more than the picture I would consider one but I am pretty good at travelling light and can't justify the price when I can manage with what I have.
