Xchallenge project

Couple of quick pictures of the bits mounted in place. The TT tank is very discoulered as the guy who had it has been welding by it, I'm thinking of painting it but i need to find out what plastic it is, so i can get the correct plastic primer..

Just need to find a headlight now, and sort the wiring.

I think it is HDPE and can't be painted as the fuel breaths through the plastic. Stickers bubble and peel off

Once all the body work is finished, i'm going to look t changing the forks and maybe the yokes for a WP set up as the xchallenge forks are shite...

Biggest ball ache i found when fitting a ktm front end was how to mount the dash, steering lock and headlight, but looks like you've already solved this problem :) .

Sorted out some of the wiring today:D Had to lengthen some of the cables as i have fitted Rox risers and they were too short.

Proper job done with soulder, and shrink wrap. It's actually better now as i wont have problems with the dreaded loom breaking, as it's fixed and doesnt move with the bars..

Rox risers fitted, Not sure they are the best for this bike, but i can change them at some point if i'm not happy.

Clocks are mounted:D Fitted quite nicely into the ktm consul.

I'm going to run a fused constant live to the front now, I have a bmw 12v plug and i will have a standard 12v socket. Can run and charge most things from them then.

I keep taking it apart and putting it back together as i'm adding bits to it.... It is starting to look a bit more of a finished article now though:bounce1

Looks good! I didn't think it would but you seem to have pulled it off! Just one thing, it's probably perspective but it looks like the fairing rakes back at a slightly steeper angle than standard, is this true and if so, how are you going to align the lights?

It's actually the same rake as the Ktm, it looks a lot steeper as I have a different screen on the ktm that's behind it. I've sorted the lights and all lines up bang on;)

Nice one. It looks good. It would look even better in black and yellow. ;)

Got all the wiring finished and tided up. All the relays are now under the front fairing.

Spare relay in place in case of a breakdown.

All in all looking quite neat and tidy, and a big bonus, every thing works:D

rocky burns, nice job!!

Going to nick your idea with carrying the spare relay next to existing ones rather than having to dig up from some bag in some other bag inside a bigger bag... :D

Why did you decide to use the higher mounting points on the subframe for your rack's forward mount and not the lower down ones?

Not quite finished yet and that's my next plan as i need somewhere to fasten the giant loop. It's not really a case of carrying anything too heavy, more to keep the giant loop from touching the exhaust.....
There is the opportunity to carry soft bags though if the need arises.:beerjug:

Some great work there.

How do the wires fit into the Centrech panel? They just look a bit vulnerable to water ingress/corrosion.

Walter Colebatch built a Challenge special for his trips and reckoned the low front mudguard was the best option for travelling as the high guard allowed too much crap to be blown back over the bike and rider.

He also has designed and sells his "Magadan" soft luggage which has some very clever details designed in.
