Hi

What are folk using to do simple maintenance like chain lube etc?

I see that there are options for a centre stand from Wunderlich and SW Motech. This guy looks to have some good stuff too (http://www.naturereach.com/shopping.html) but quite expensive. Then of course there's BMW's quality offering!

The sports bike guys get stands for a few quid, I wondered if anyone had tried one of those with success.

Tip It right over and shove an axle stand under the RHS foot peg mounting whilst still on the sidestand.:comfort.

Thinking some more about this, and looking at the axle/bobbin/paddock solution has got me thinking.

If I take a standard rear paddock stand and modify (or remove) the cup supports to be just bars that will fit inside the hollow axle, it's job done. Don't really see the need for the bobbins.

Sounds too easy. Just need to have a look around for a cheap new one or second hand one to 'modify'.

A carefully placed rear paddock stand with 'L' shaped holders works ok on my XChallenge, but I will probably get a Moto-X type stand in the near future to make it more stable.

I've never used these before but don't the moto-x ones just act as a flat table expecting two level/parallel frame tubes to sit on? And would that be stable? Would you put the weight on your sump guard?

I thought I'd just report back on my initial success.

I acquired a good used paddock stand from ebay for £15 locally. The cups were mounted on 13mm bar. That's too big to just turn around a poke into the hollow axle from either side, so I just took those out and got a single length of 10mm (11mm would be better) to go the whole way through paddock stand, axle, paddock stand. I drilled the ends and put in 'R' clips to prevent any 'accidents'. The result is a quick, easy and secure way to lift the rear end for washing and chain lubing.

I use a cheap kick step thing / multi purpose stand - bit of bugger getting it on there but generally stays on ok .....
