Interested on what range folks get on their XCountry...

Remapped? Did it make a difference?

My one has lived in the garage for a few years. Should I ride it out to Portugal this summer? Decisions, decisions..

I used to get a 100ish, maybe 120 of normal riding speeds to a tank, until the light came on - so maybe 150 at a push (less at 100mph on the motoway though)

Theoretically I could get 150 (and did once) from my XChallenge with same tank

Hi Rob .... as JB says, 150 possible, but I've run dry at 105

You have to neck it when filling up, right up to the brim, because of the shape of the tank being triangular, flat side along the top, if you only fill to within an inch of the brim then you've lost a good percentage of volume :blast

I have an X-Tank for if and when I'm doing the longer trips. Great piece o' kit, well made, and w o r k s :thumb

The remap just makes it much smoother ... had a few spirited rides with Bilko and Mr Smooth on here, down in Wales, we all averaged about 72 to 73 mpg, mine was no faster in reality, but will poodle along at 30mph in fourth and accelerate away über smooth :aidan

Thanks gents.. appreciated :thumb

Noted on the brimming bit!

I'm not sure whether going to use the bike enough to justify the tank, (gather they're around the £500 mark..)

I probably won't be razzing about so 120 would be do-able!

I am currently getting 73mpg from my xchallenge. Had upto 78 with longer gearing.
In Portugal on trails/road I was good upto a 135 mile range, but it was getting close. It seems to be sustained high road speed that has the most impact on reducing the mpg.

Pootling round Scotland I got ~80mpg & 160/tank when I filled up, more typical main road speeds & you are looking for fuel around 70-80 miles with around 110 mile range, so a bit crap really.
Some say it's acceptable. It's not.

Another gallon as stock would have really helped these bikes.....

If you take a Jerry can of some sort I'm sure you'll be ok. I leave for Africa in a few days, passing through Portugal. All be it I have a touratech tank. You'll love touring on the bike, I say that with a GSA that I'm leaving at home.

I dont know if the X country tank filling spout is same as my Sertao but I removed the ring around the locking lid then with the insert that guides the fuel into the tank, I drilled a 10mm hole near to top to let it vent air out easier when filling. It must let yer get more in as well. HTHY

That's what I decided this year in the Pyrenees. I carried an emergency 2 litres but never needed it as I always found fuel by about 120 miles, 80% of which was off road.

I'm thinking that'll be my route :thumb

Well worth the money :thumb

BUT if you're really serious about your Xcountry Rob, and it's a long term relationship, then speak to Bas at Hyperpro :thumby:

Re the X tank price....
When I had my XCountry, I designed a tank with ~6ltr capacity, to mount low down in front of the engine, I sourced a filler neck with lockable cap, a local fab shop quoted £180 (inc vat) to make it in stainless, inc mounting brackets outlet/vent spigots etc.

I got bored of the bike & sold it before having the tank made.
Shame,as it may have been a lucratice venture!

Cheers again.. :thumb

@Phil- you might be right.

@Losttheplot - That actually looks pretty decent.. think I might move for one of those..
