How easy is it to change the front wheel bearings without any special tools?

Are the part numbers the same as the challenge?

Cheers

Easy job to do.
6004 2RS x2 is what you want from a bearing stockist. cheaper and generally better quality supplied too.

Knock the old ones out, use a bar and hammer. Put the new ones in the freezer over night, warm the hub (I use a heat gun now but used boiling water and cloths in the past). drop the freezing bearing into the hot hub. You can use a large socket, that fits on, but is slightly smaller than the outer race and a hammer to tap it in making sure you keep it square and it is fully seated.

Honda -- yes they do -- (some of the ones I found) , but could not find full and more up to date comprehensive list ,but I would think the Honda part No is the same for all and would be a current part No for all years.

If you're in a town or city there should be a bearing/engineering supply place, you need a pair of 6004rs bearings.
All different manufacturers here http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=6004RS
With dimensions.
It'll be worth your while getting seals as well which are 25x42x7 R23 like these http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p2...with+Garter+Spring+R23+/+TC/product_info.html if you're on a long trip it may be worth your while getting a spare pair and change them further down the road, easier to do than knocking out knackered bearings.

Ended up with these. Was a choice of Indian, Chinese and Japanese. I chose the latter. Can't see how you get the seals off to pack with grease though.

They usually have rubber seals which are easy to carefully pry off. I don't think you'll shift those.

Can't get the old ones out though. Can't just hammer them as there is a metal tube, not the Axel that runs through the hub.

It's a long time since I did mine, wont the tube push to one side slightly to give access to the inner race?

They'll be already packed with grease, you'll not get any more in as to make a difference!!

They're probably for gearbox application ... just fit and continue having fun :thumb

We fitted a pair like that, but only metal at one side, to Sue's F650GS, In Mongolia. Got us through the Gobi, in to China, and back in to Russia before they packed in. Got some proper ones in Russia, rubber seals on both sides, they lasted the journey and we're still in when the 'bike was sold :thumb

:beerjug:

Yep already packed with grease. Just fit and forget.

Managed to get the old ones out in the end. Wasn't easy on the road without a big punch.
