It was all going according to plan but...........
My project has come to a bit of a halt because, having fitted the 'Autoswitch', wiring, lightbar and Hella xenon lights to my GSAdv, the problem is fitting the 2 ballast boxes for the 2 spotlamps. Has anyone made a cradle / bracket to position them?

I tried putting them between the fairing frame at the headstock but it seriously inhibited the steering lock.

I believe Touratech make a special bracket and I have e-mailed them to see if I can buy them separately. Otherwise, does any GS's have a diagram of a homemade one or an idea where best to fit them. The lead from the ballast to the light is only 15 inches.

Can anyone help?

Any diagrams can be e-mailed to Stephen.williams at aramco.com

Thanks lads

Can't post you a picture but I've ended up drilling two bolts through the beak and putting them under that. I was lucky that Hella provided a carrier that I could use to hold them, just needed 2 bolts in the end.

I am assuming you mean the cross shaped brackets for holding the ballasts! That may be the only alternative to have it up-front and scewed underneath. At least it doesn't rain much here.

you can fit one of the boxes into the front frame unit from underneth, if your unit is a hella, the mounting bolts even comeout of two holes that are in the headstock - fits perfectly, out of sight and out of the way -

FWIW, I'm about to fit two HID lamps in to my dipped/main beam headlights.

After much mulling and trying here there and everywhere (cue for a song!), I've decided that the easiest place to put the ballast units is under the beak.

Steptoe

Steptoe,
I must be blind but, the only holes I see are where the wiring loom is tie-wrapped. I know you are good at photography, could you show us a picture.
Maybe it's the sun blinding me to your suggestion.
Thanks

That's the ones. I keep meaning to go back and do a better job than the one I've done (including the wiring which is very Heath Robinson) but there's always more important stuff to do and I've always gone by 'if it aint broke then wait until it does'

Here you go - i've also included a frame headstock of an R1100R, which has the same holes - they're on all models -
