Xplorer Top Box Lid

I managed to damage the hinge on my H&B Xplorer top box lid the other day. Don't know if the wind pushed it back or if it was me, but the lid went back a little further than it should do when open. This snapped one (of two) of the little teeth that keep it in the upright position while open. Pretty sure the other one will too as with any pressure applied. Without these the lid will go all the way back & probably come out of its housing.

So my question is does anyone have any suggestions on a retaining strap I can improvise or buy...without having to drill any holes?

I'm not sure how the lid can be saved if the hinges are broken. But is it really broken? As I recall reading somewhere that the lid of the Xplorer top box can be completely removed. Let me go search for the instructions that came with the box...
